Day 1: Toontrack EZkeys Cinematic Grand for $39.

I have EZdrummer 2 and looking to get EZbass at some point. The last obvious thing one would think of getting is EZkeys to complete the Toontrack EZ family (ignoring EZmix as I am not interested in it at all).

However, I have Scaler 2 and wondering if EZkeys is really worth it. I also have NI Play Series stuff which contains my favourite Hybrid Keys. Any thoughts?

With EZkeys it might start getting expensive when the expansions go on sale only to tempt you more and I want to avoid that. Before I dismiss the thought of getting EZkeys, I thought I'd post here to get some opinions.
I bought into the EZ Keys world with Upright Piano and I never use it. I also have Cubase 11 now but have used their Cord track and assist programs since they were introduced. I feel that Cubase set the standard in the "assist" area but Scaler 2 has changed that and gone much further. All I can say is make sure you're certain you know all that Scaler 2 can do : great YT vids out there.

Definitely. I am familiar with Scaler 2 to some extent, so I was looking at EZkeys and realize what Rajiiv said above. The advantage of EZkeys is with its playing styles/MIDI engine and the song creator. While EZkeys might not be necessary at all, having just one EZkeys library and engine gives access to these features which can compliment EZdrummer 2, EZbass and even Scaler 2 in some ways. That said, I will give a good thought before I decide to buy EZkeys.

Yay, Thomann shipped my order
They really must be swamped like never before, and now with Germany going in lockdown, I wonder if they will be able to keep the online shop running.

Vis a vis the Toontrack discussion, I thought I'd do a little challenge for myself to see how much of a pop song I could write in two hours using three main tools -- Scalar, EZKeys, and EZBass. The idea is that these tools should shorten the time for musicians (particularly amateur, largely talentless, and extremely time-pressured musicians like me).

The results are in the 1:20 track below. I spent an extra hour than I had anticipated, so three hours, and I have an intro, a verse, and a chorus. I quickly jotted down some words and put it together. No real mixing. I probably would have been faster, but I spent 30 minutes trying to put down a guitar line that I could quite get to work.

My workflow was that I built the chord progressions in Scalar (and had a melody in my head when I did it). Then I exported the Scalar chords into EZKeys and used the Neo Soul MIDI pack to create the piano patterns. I have EZKeys upright piano, but just like someone above mentioned, I never use it. Instead, I used the MIDI to drive an XLN electric grand piano. It wasn't completely seamless. EZKeys simplified my chords for some reason, so I had to edit the chords. I did some additional fixing when I had it loaded as MIDI to my DAW.

I took the EZKeys MIDI and imported it into EZBass -- super quick and easy -- drag and drop. The EZBass default bassline was dull, but it recognized the chords, and I was able to quickly find some bass MIDI that I liked.

Drums are MIDI loops from Addictive Drums. I did not use Scalar MIDI patterns -- so maybe I'll try that next. (Although I kinda like where this is going and will likely invest more time in it).

IMO, Scalar is a great product. And Toontrack EZKeys and EZBass are also great. I would love EZKeys to have the MIDI editing capabilities that EZBass does. But I really think these tools working in tandem allowed me to create something that I think is original very quickly. As I said before, EZKeys for $39 is a steal.

I hope I'm not over-evangelizing the product, but I really feel like compared to some music products on the market, I have really gotten value out of these tools. I hope the track shows what is possible with a little time, inspiration, and experimentation. Forgive the poor mixing and out-of-tune singing.

As the current kilohearts sale has been extended and also expanded to include Snapins and Multipass, will this sale be available in jrrshop as well?

Just installed. Does yours say "DEMO" in the title bar? If so, does that mean there are limitations? I see that no Kontact serial was provided.

Have you checked your account? I have a serial there. If you're not seeing one yet, I would just give it some time. This is the full version - no limitations.
