So I check back on this thread about my favorite new synth, and it's five pages of the most pedantic argument I've seen in a looong time. You'd almost think this was Gearslutz! :P

Seriously, just turn the frigg' Osc 2 Fine Tune Knob -- that's why it's there, for chrissake! It even defaults to 7.3 cents in the INIT patch.

I think the mono-legato behavior is configured the same as on the Uno-LX -- if you want a true mono-legato mode on that synth, you have to turn Portamento ON (you can leave the value at 0 if you don't want actual portamento). I think this wasn't even possible on the original Juno-60 (mono-legato, I mean)?

Anyway, the behavior on J-8 seems the same: Solo mode + Portamento on (at zero or otherwise) gives you Mono Legato envelopes.

What I like about this synth is that despite its conventional appeal, it is multitimbral in a way, allowing for more complex sounds while still being easy to use. On the hardware that probably meant using more components since it is basically two synths in one.

To me it's a dream synth because TAL's Uno-LX has always had my favorite soft-synth filter (for real), but the Osc section on the Juno is just way too simple / limited for the synth to be a Workhorse / go-to synth. The J-8 solves that 100% -- so much programmability, so many deep sound design possibilities, and yet the same utterly fantastic Roland filter (and the ability to modify it, too, with the calibration knobs). I couldn't be happier!

Well, the other two only have one osc. Just different shapes.

mhollaway could always get the punch out of J-8 when needed by sync'ing the osc or turning the blend towards one osc only.

No , not the same thing
On the sh101 and the juno , the saw is uprising and the square starts with a negative cycle , which gives you this waveshape when both combined (saw+square ) .
You will not get this on a jupiter

You don't get the synced sub though with the jupiter, so the 101 and Juno still have that advantage. All great synths.

Spot on. The ease of use, the very nice GUI layout and most importantly, those 4 oscillators that can create such a huge range of lush analogue sounds. The scope for parameter randomisation is also great so really, there is no reason to end up with 'static' VCOs. Most importantly, J-8 makes sounds all by itself. So fun. I'm really enjoying the relative simplicity of the Jupiter-8 design compared to the behemoths I have been working with lately.

Now if only we had a world renowned sound designer who is enjoying it, and would share audio of what he has done OR better yet, if he had the email address of someone who loves his work and he sends him a few of the awesome patches that he knows that person would LOVE to hear :).

It’s very quiet, try boosting the signal. I noticed when doing heavy compression.
Dc offset is not something you can hear , it's a continious signal that is added to an ac signal
If the dc is too high you get clipping

It’s very quiet, try boosting the signal. I noticed when doing heavy compression.
Dc offset is not something you can hear , it's a continious signal that is added to an ac signal

Yes, the plugin produces a constant low level DC signal when I turn the chorus on with no notes playing.

While I love all Tal synths, their stock presets are never my favorite. I'll wait for some preset packs to be released but in the meanwhile I'll play around with it myself.
