Very tempted with this. Xmas treat to me after the shite year we’ve all had. I will obviously dl and demo, but any thoughts with cpu usage? Compared to other soft synths? Cheers
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

Post

It can get pretty high regarding CPU usage, if you use dual/split mode and above 6 voices of poly per part.

If that person did miss the SC panel the first time they tried it out, I couldn't blame them. 99 times out of a hundred, when you see a button labeled "SC" at the top of a plugin it means sidechain.

I'd probably have labeled that button "Voice" or "Voice Controls" or something like that. Not a biggie, but I could totally understand how someone misses that if they'd only had a quick demo.

Agreed, SC is not the best name for that section...

I also have to admit till the VCO trimmers were added, I have never even fiddled with them on any of his synths before. But I did know they existed.
I saw them and ignored them.

Hehe, I think it is the capability of the human mind to see and rearrange letters so that they make sense. I read somewhere that the first letter needs to be correct, the rest can be screwed up to a certain extent, the human mind will straighten them out automatically.

Just downloaded the latest build, am I missing some setting or is there no voice stealing? Say, you have set the number of voices to 2, you play two notes, keep them pressed, and when you try to play a third note, nothing happens and the first two keep sounding.

I literally just noticed that with my laptop. Just installed an instance of Tal J-8 on that, loaded the default preset (which still has only 3 voices, which I forgot about), and all of a sudden some new notes weren't playing. I thought my controller was acting up for a second until I realized it was the voices. But yeah, I noticed the same behavior, it wasn't prioitizing the newest notes but rather holding the prior ones. Thought it was odd.

Don't know enough about how the real Jupiter's voice stealing works to comment if it's an issue or not.

Since the trim pots on the SC panel are so small it is hard to see whether they are set to zero or slightly detuned. Mouse-over does not seem to work, either.

Did the original have a voice selector, too?

I am not sure, but I didn't notice that behavior with the build I had downloaded days ago. Maybe because I always tend to set the number to 12, anyway :hihi:

On the original, you'd probably need to play a 9 note chord to be sure. Does the 9th note drop, or one of the prior ones? No idea.
