Hello. Apologizing because I'm a total noob here... I don't even know what could be wrong. So I'm asking for help before I finally give up with this specific VST.

I briefly used Ableton, but I really want to switch to Tracktion 7, since it doesn't limit my number of tracks. And every VST I had worked fine, except Genny, a Sega Genesis/Megadrive VST that is awesome for two reasons: 1) sounds nice 2) has a very nice list of preset instruments, so total noobs like me can just select a few instead of having to create them from scratch.

*The VST can be found here: http://gendev.spritesmind.net/forum/vie ... php?t=1062 (http://gendev.spritesmind.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1062)

However, I cannot find for the life of me anyone on the Internet mentioning anything about Tracktion 7 compatibility with this specific plugin... and it seems to be the best one that is also free. And the instrument list is really useful for me...

To sum it up: does someone here use it in Tracktion 7 and can confirm me that it works (or not)? If it works, can you please help me? If it doesn't, does someone know a different plugin with similar features?

*Oh, uh. Since I just made the account it seems the link is blocked. You can find it searching "Genny VST" in Google very easily, though.

Can you give a bit more information beyond just "doesn't work"? There are a lot of ways that VSTs can fail.

By the way, why Tracktion 7 when Waveform 11 has a free version? It might be difficult to find a lot of users here still on that version.

I downloaded the plugin. It scans, it validates, it loads. For some reason the first instrument doesn't make any sound.

Here is another plugin that emulates a SEGA Genesis:

Surely there must be consensus by now...

Yes! The way it doesn't work is like this: it scans (the x64 version), it loads, the control panel (I guess I could call it that?) pops up, but it doesn't make a sound. Not just the first instrument, but all of them, while in Ableton it works right away. It's not a problem with the MIDI keyboard, since all the other plugins work with it fine.

Well, I didn't know! If I can't make this VST work I may try to try that one... Thank you.

Thank you also for the recommendation! But I did find this one earlier, and the only problem is that it isn't free :_)

Are you using the 32bit or 64bit T7?
Not just the first instrument, but all of them, while in Ableton it works right away.
Hmm... a word like "instrument" has two meanings in this case. GENNY loads multiple "instruments" in each of its instrument instances. I was meaning the former. In one instance of GENNY the first "instrument" is silent and any others added will work fine. That's using the 64bit GENNY in Waveform 11 PRO.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

Looks like GENNY isn't receiving MIDI data for its first "instrument" no matter what I do with the channel settings. Weird. I've never seen anything like that before.

I'm using 64 bit.
And you're right! Sorry. I am a total beginner x'D. What I meant with instrument was what Genny calls "presets", the list in the right, that has options like "2019 bass 01" or "Sonic Green Hill".

........... And now that I tried adding the same sound a second time in the "instrument" list... it does sound... wow. I don't understand this, but it works now?? I compared the settings (in the same "instruments" panel) and they were different. I edited the first one (the one that didn't sound) to match the second, and deleted the second. And... it works now.

????????

I have no clue what's happening but I guess it works now, so thank you very much lol!

You could always let the developer of the plugin know. They might be interested in tracking down the problem or they might not, but they can't fix things they don't know about.
Surely there must be consensus by now...
