I have the pro version, but quite frankly the standard version is enough for most musical applications. It has this amazing ability to stay out of the way while still adding that reverb magic to anything I throw at it. Love it.
I got the standard version on BF but i haven't used it yet. So do you think i don't need Nimbus?

I could save the money i would have spent on Nimbus and put it toward Valhalla Shimmer.
Maybe wait until PhoenixVerb goes on sale again? I think I got it for 10 €. I actually appreciate that it's a bit more simple than Nimbus. I'm not a fan of super many features.

All in all, I can only recommend the Exponential Audio reverbs. They sound great. R2 is excellent as well. And I'm really demanding when it comes to reverbs.

I have Phoenixverb. I think you need to have Pheonixverb to get the Nimbus for £25. Cheers for reply.

Ah...

Hmm, not sure if you need Nimbus if you have PhoenixVerb. A lot of overlap there? As far as I've always read, never tried Nimbus, Nimbus is just an enhanced version if PhoenixVerb? I could be wrong.

Ok thanks. Nimbus probably isn't something i need. I have 7th Heaven standard and i have Breeze 2 and i have R4 and i will be getting Valhalla Shimmerverb.

That covers a HUGE range of reverb ground. I'd say you are pretty much set there. The only thing I can think of is a Plate reverb option, something that emulates a real plate. For that I can recommend UVI Plate but it's extremely harsh on the CPU if you want to use it at it's best (in the "insane" mode, or whatever it's called).

Oh i have Soundtoys Little Plate and Arturia. Also for larger and or unreal spaces i have Raum, Supermassive, and Blackhole.

I'm looking forward to getting Shimmerverb. I'll just hold down one key or chord and sit back and relax and smile!

Then you are absolutely 100% set when it comes to reverbs. :D

I was expecting not to see a single mention of Acon Verberate are, but alas, there were two (not bad :)).

If I were forced to use only one, that would be my choice. It's ER level fader is somewhat weird, IMHO (you have tu turn it up way up to hear the difference between different ER modes), but it's a wonderful, natural sounding reverb.

My take on plugins is this: if you can't pick just one plugin and be happy with it (and I can't really, save for eq, wish I could), pick just a few and have a real motive why you're chosing a certain tool.

IMHO, that reason should be either: because it sounds really, really good objectively (and it's not in contrast to the sound you're striving for), or, you really, really like it (if you have doubts whether you like a certain plugin, you probably don't really like it, or maybe you just don't know how to operate it) and you have no qualms about the tech stuff regarding that plugin.

When it comes to reverbs, it is very, very important to set the wet levels appropriately and then there's eq (on board EQ' and/or pre/post ones).

It was of big help for me to demo certain reverbs and try to match their output to the ones I have (almost all of Valhallas and Acon Verberate).

If I can get the outputs close enough (and thankfully I could) and also be happy with what I hear, that's it.

Also, learning to treat plugins as a tool you must master is of big help (no one expects saws, files and other tools to make / fix things by themselves, but I guess many people expect music production to do just that :)).

So, for me, it's Acon Verberate and the Valhallas. I also had Pro-R but sold it recently (it sounds good, but, that whole "simplistic" Fabfilter "mentality" doesn't really sit well with me and I was growing increasingly uncomfortable with it while I had it; thought I would get used to it but no dice).

I picked up Reverberate 3 during the last sale and just love it, it's become my first choice for acoustic instruments and drums especially, but it's also very good as an fx reverb. It's just so flexible. It's also the first reverb I really enjoy creating my own patches with and saving them in banks. Also got Pro-R a few days ago and am actually very happy with it. I love the sound and appreciate the fact that it's so simple (and pretty). Other than that I like the Valhalla and EA reverbs.

If you like some retro 60s vibe get a spring reverb. There are great free spring impulse responses out there, but then there is UHe's Twangström - a fantastic algorithmic emulation with many additional options to sculpt and modulate the spring sound like a real life device. Currently 50% off at Native Instruments btw (its very rare for UHe plugins to be discounted).

A spring reverb good for dub too?

Of course! Absolutely! Search for "Jah Servant Twangström review" on Youtube!

I also use quite a lot of reverbs in my projects. There are probably 10-20 in a project. But I don't use just one reverb, I use different ones. Because each reverb has its advantages and disadvantages. But I also have to say that I almost always use a reverb in combination with a delay...
Depth is also important and the idea that every sound gets its own (small) room and/or position is not outdated.
That's why you should definitely get a few different reverbs. There is actually no such thing as the best reverb overall.
