I've been thinking about purchasing Granurise as well, but if the M4L version isn't fully functional, then it wouldn't be worth it for me. One of the more interesting features is the sequencer. If having several patterns running on the sequencer were to cause clicks, or crash Ableton, that would be a deal breaker.
tried it just now, in ableton live 11 beta.
loaded with a sample, a sample that came with it, i have enough samples, but for a try out..
to the point!
loading time isn't bad, indeed small GUI, but even on my 15" laptop, it can read the smallest print (and my eyesight, just age...). a bit bigger GUI would be nice.
to the point!
loaded a sample, made a simple gesture recording, grain/spectra, did some pitch shift per grain voice (no gesture recording)..
live 11 beta gives a better buffer load read out: average was about 30%-35% which ain't bad, with peaks to 60% (but it is my laptop, those peaks, are back again, but everything still works, i am lazy).
so not a full test yet, can't be, i must learn the thing. i already watched video's etc. so..
one thing: it isn't recognized as an M4L MPE device, because ableton in their wisdom deciced:
Users cannot toggle MPE Mode for their Max for Live devices via the context menu anymore. It's up to the device developer to set the "is_mpe" attribute in Max.
or it maybe really wisdom to do that.. i already contacted the developer about, because, when live 11 suite is out, granurise is of course a M4L instrument (or must i call it device??) that works excellent in the new version, and makes granurise a more attractive instrument to use within ableton..
first impression great!
o yes laptop, high performance mode (of course) some tweaks (o! 20H2, has enabled some things again, i think.. on my desktop i tweaked it.. TO THE POINT!), windows 10 20H2, i7-9750H (6 core, runs at 4.0 ghz at high performance mode, but M4L is still one core.. i think..).
at 512 sample buffer. quite nice. how it holds with more gestures/patterns, oscillators-"morphing", i will report. (and a behringer umc204hd by the way, i mention this not because it is a bad interface, it is pretty good soundinterface, outperforms my motu ultralite mk3 hybrid at 512 sample buffer...)
i feel this is the Granular Community Thread, the GrainHeads?
perhaps rename the thread, or make a new one, with an overview of all granular possibilities, tutorials, books.. perhaps? (granular is of course not my main synthesis, but it has my focus now, for some time, and of course, not all the time, but i am discovering it more and more, for sounddesign but also for composing.. which is the history of grains...)
