Thanks, I previously read that and that's why I asked the question. It's good info but I'd like more from a range of peopledermage wrote: Sun Dec 27, 2020 2:13 amJust read from here:leeleema wrote: Sun Dec 27, 2020 12:57 am So is the Drop worth getting if I own Ableton Live with Autofilter? Obviously that filter is based on MQ the drop filters and sounds great to my ears

I think I'll do that. I'm sometimes guilty of completely forgetting about trial versions. Cheers!dermage wrote: Sun Dec 27, 2020 3:22 pm As said you could also use the trial version and see it for yourself. It's totally worth investing that time.

You might also consider Reaktor. It comes with the Monark filter in modular block form, which is damned good and can be audio-rate modulated in just about any way imaginable with other tools in Reaktor. There are other filters in Reaktor too, but that's a nice one! It has nice analog character and is rather fat and has nice drive with "load". And it has 3 LP modes as well as a BP. Sadly, the Monark has no HP mode.
The only thing I don't like is that this filter produces a little noise, maybe to help it start self-resonating. But if you dig into it in edit mode, you'll find the "leakage" parameter, which you can zero, thus eliminating the noise.
You can basically build the Monark synth from blocks, even if you don't own Monark.
And then you've got all the rest of Reaktor's power!
I've never tried The Drop, so I don't know how it compares in terms of filter quality. I love nice filters. I guess I should try it!
There is also SerumFX if you have Serum. But those filters generally aren't quite top tier. There is a big variety though. No audio-rate modulation.
I wish Zebrify had the Diva filters.
Soundemote's free Flower Child is a very interesting filter plugin, though the only internal modulation options are a basic ADSR envelope and envelope follower. Still, it's great for some things!

Can only repeat again, for filter lovers (as I am too) The Drop is a must have, only realized this after a few years of buying all other filter plugs, that The Drop is the king in that regard.JO512 wrote: Thu Dec 31, 2020 5:43 am

Regarding Soundemote, wasn't this the guy who promised FMD a while back, but it never came out? Was following that, too, but my waiting/excitement stopped as I realized it will apparently take some more years

I think I remember reading that he had to get a regular job to pay the bills, as plugin sales and whatnot weren't enough to live on. So he might be hard pressed to find enough time to do much development. This is too bad, because I think his plugins are fantastic and deserve more attention and should be developed further. Very different from the usual stuff out there!dermage wrote: Thu Dec 31, 2020 2:57 pm Regarding Soundemote, wasn't this the guy who promised FMD a while back, but it never came out? Regardless, the latest version of Flower Child has a number of filter models that seem to be from that FOMD project as well as some other new features. I recommend checking it out.

I understand that not everyone can live off this. Andy from Cytomic on the other side has too much work to do with his multiple projects and consulting that it takes longer to do full releases, but he updates them still from time to time, which is great.
With these pre-release things though (which Flower Child may be) I often fear to lose project compatibility when new features are added. Have experienced this often in the past and always look to buy/test full stable releases without the beta/alpha tag.

Cheers, I've read that before. The Drop is still way too expensive though. I'm going to give PSP stompfilter a go instead. PSP are just absolutely robust, always dependable quality. I often think I should just strip down my whole plug-in folder to PSP and u-he and be very happy. Hhehe, believe me, I have them all. StompFilter, WOW2, kazrog SynthWarmer, Filterfreak nothing comes close sound quality wise to The Drop.leeleema wrote: Thu Dec 31, 2020 9:47 pmCheers, I've read that before. You would really save some money in not buying the others (just my experience).
Bx_oberhausen has a great filter though, it's on par with The Drop
(as is u-he Repro, Dune 3, Obsession, Softube Monument/Statement Lead/Model72)

Andy should do a 'modnetic' and have a random sale of the drop at $20. He'd make enough money to keep him going for at least a year I reckon. He'd be joining a race to the bottom but hey ho!dermage wrote: Thu Dec 31, 2020 9:53 pmHhehe, believe me, I have them all. Amazing that some people still consider 'a race to the bottom ' a good thing .

Amazing that some people interpret the mention of 'race to the bottom' as somehow viewing it as a good thing when the statement is at best neutral, considering the phrase 'race to the bottom' is itself perjorative. Two negative comments in a row mate, some would consider that as trollinggentleclockdivider wrote: Fri Jan 01, 2021 2:21 pm Amazing that some people still consider 'a race to the bottom ' a good thing .
