Enso is great, but like a lot of Audio Damage stuff, it feels unfinished. You get those lovely speed controls, that even go backwards, and no way to control them via MIDI. Fail.

Concerning Enso's midi/automation limitations, I had sent this message to support. The reply in November 2020 was very courteous and understanding of my request, with a conclusion of "we'll consider it for the next update" (RTZ quantization) and "look into it" (optional quantization mode for pitch etc).

A work around might be to quantize from the daw the incoming midi commands (such as via Ableton clips, or Reaper JS Live Quantize). I haven't tested this yet though, and can imagine there could be some slight unsynchrony that would make the loop be slightly off.

I noticed that clicking on RTZ with the mouse does respect Mode Quantize. This is very helpful for resyncing the loop (such as after play speed changes). Unfortunately this parameter is not found by the DAW for automation (I'm using Reaper, Win 10). Linking RTZ on the MIDI panel behaves unquantized only (which is also a good option though). It would be quite helpful to also have quantized RTZ available via automation and/or midi.

Also, it would be nice to have the option to trigger Play Speed +, -, and reverse (as from the MIDI panel) as quantized to measure so that it wouldn't go out of sync (when of course using values that are of some sort of multiples (octaves typically).

For me Enso is a nice to look at and inspiring to play around with looper. Also interesting to go crazy with the play and record head speeds. But for a live looping setup with multiple instruments and layers MSuperLooper should be the best current plugin in my opinion: active development and a dev that listens to users and makes rather too complex than too simple plugins. For live looping I want flexibility for an optimised workflow.

Msuperlooper is great by the way (64 bit), I think I paid about $9 for it when they ran a deal.

You just need to hit your DAWs Stop-button to make it stop. About the Blips, I never experienced this, so not sure what that could be about. There is a dedicated User-forum in here though, with some helpful folks including the Developer. viewforum.php?f=138

I'm not using a DAW, I'm using a live VST host (and I don't want to hit stop on that because it would stop all audio.) Too bad they assumed we're using a DAW and omitted an important function.

I watched the videos, which were helpful, but sadly they used MIDI notes rather than CCs and I need to use CCs and it's really quite complicated with lots of options to try -- really, too many to try them all, and not nearly intuitive enough to figure out what to try first. I think I have the Record button mapped to my sustain pedal (though I had to disable half-pedaling on my keyboard, which I don't want to have to do.) Yet if I hit it while playing, I often get a nasty blip at the splice point.

Thanks -- looks like MSuperLooper will work for me, though the MIDI setup is very confusing (and I'm a software engineer.)

GLoop almost worked but not quite.

Work with it for awhile, its a bit intuitive but flexible when you get to know it.

Audio damage Enso

Enso has a nice design but constantly crashed Cubase nearly ever time.

This has been the case with all versions (multiple versions of ENSO and Cubase tested.)
I wish they would get it fixed, I would like to use it.

Yes, fortunately the speed and reverse are controllable via midi from that panel, but they do not respond in a quantized way, resulting in the loop going out of sync (which may or may not be an issue for some) if you just want to transpose by octaves (which has the potential to retain the sync). My post above refers to this issue.

Speaking about live looping I could definitely recommend Ableton Live. It takes some time to set up a working template, but then I is AWSOME !!!
I personally do it with the LOOPER of Ableton instead of the session view. It gives you more creative freedom!
