i've used presets as starting places to get where i'm going. it's rare for me that any plug in has a preset that just magically fits what i'm doing.. other than some reverbs. i've had some things that i know were meant for pads or synth sounds work well on drums or weird fx.leeleema wrote: Sat Jan 02, 2021 12:47 pm The thing about UA plug-ins I've realised, is that the presets are terrible, as in unusable in any context. I think Byome may be an exception as there seem to be some usuable tweakeable stuff there but Sandman Pro, Fault, et al? Terrible, just terrible. Or is that just me?
i think byome, triad, specops.. they're great at doing simple utilitarian things that sound excellent and make the track so much better overall combined with whatever other eq/compression etc processing i'm using. that missing special sauce. or the super weird sound design thing that becomes a 'voice' in the track.
presets are very user specific things and in my experience and context is everything. some presets try to give hints "put your drums through here" or something. this gives an idea of what the sound designer was doing when making the preset.
