SM1 lacks polish compared to other synths i have

for example: there's one control (can't remember which one it is) that if you midi-learn it, SM1 instead maps it to another control which breaks my setup

it has potential, but it makes me realise how amazingly polished some of the other synths out there are and how much work has gone into making them so

I think that "polish" is something that you get what you pay for. For example, AIR Music and SONiVOX sell their synths now for $10 or less. But they need lots of polish!

Some devs are getting up to $200+ per synth. But many users feel they are highly polished.

I think the Synthmasters are an awesome bang for the buck! Excellent sound, and very affordable. Not perfect yet, but highly usable! Maybe needs some attention to the finer details and a bit of TLC and polish, but I still like them a lot!

^ GOOD POINT

i got the "everything bundle" which was (on sale) insane value for money, even if they lack that polish

(but maybe that's why SM1/SM2 always seem to be "the synth people forget to mention"?)

SM1 is a great synth with a diverse range of sound. Prefer it’s one page workflow to SM by far. And it’s browser is far more sophisticated than many much more expensive synths out there. When I initially started using it, it sounded kinda harsh and nasal to me but I soon learnt to get warmer & richer sounds from it, mainly by studying the vast amount of presets it came with. It can be CPU intensive when designing complex pads though.

Me too!

I also have u-he Repro, and to my ears it's top of the line! As a faithful model of a legendary analog synth I think it's the best virtual analog synth I've ever heard. But even though I got it for half price, IMHO it is apparently worth the full price!

But when I explore the expansions for Synthmaster by Big Tone and Nori Ubukata, I am blown away by their creative patches and their use of waveforms from legendary instruments to shape their sounds. SM seems to virtually have no limits in the right sound designers hands, as it can cover just about anything! Quite a chameleon!

Says who? Vacuum Pro needs no polish at all, it is one of the best V/As money can buy. It's hugely versatile and has never given me any problems at all.

I've not found that. I got SynthMaster One cheap because I liked some of the sounds when I demo'd it but it is one of the very few synths I have that I have never used in a song. That's not because it isn't any good, it's more that I've never been bothered to try because I don't find it inspiring in any way. It also doesn't help that I bought ANA 2 after I'd bought S-One and ANA feels a lot easier to work with to me. I use ANA a lot and S-One has kind of disappeared in ANA's shadow for me. I've loaded it up a few times, thinking I should use it for something, but I always lose interest after a few minutes and look for something else.

FYI, a LOT of work has gone into making SynthMaster One as well.

MIDI Learn works correctly! Do you remember for which parameter it failed ? did you send us a bug report with reproduceable steps ?

Every software can have bugs. You report them and the developers fix them according to their priority/work load.

SynthMaster One has features that other synths don't have, please keep that in mind when saying that "it's not polished ". Such as: Crossplatform data syncronization, public user library, dedicated iPad version + FREE iPhone version (yes it is totally FREE on iPhone). SynthMaster One was also free in April as a universal app (iPad/iPhone), and we had 150k downloads at that time.

^ sadly, i've been too busy

i'll try to find time to document it - it was one of the parameters top left, where if you right-click, midi-learn and move a h/w controller, that controller instead gets linked to a different parameter (and it doesn't work both ways - the different parameter can't be used to link to the original parameter)

FOR ANYONE WHO HASN'T TRIED SM1/SM2:

they are both excellent synths, and any "polish" they need is only random stuff here and there

for instance, in some of the new skins in SM2, a button you need to navigate to refresh your purchased preset packs online doesn't exist (or is in the wrong place - i don't know which)

the manual told me where it should be, and i then spent ages searching for it before i randomly switched back to the default skin, and there it was right where it said it would be!

just tiny stuff like that - the sound, soundsets and price are all great

In v2.9.9 it's as simple as this (this will be updated in the user manual this week):

Windows & MacOS. I will add it to SM1 as well, we have a new bug fix update coming up in January.

How good is Synthmaster ONE?
