This is how it's going to be, but it also needs to be on the settings page.lunardigs wrote:What about the possibility to add within "com.u-he.Diva.Preferences.txt", something like:
V_CONTROL name='Button Multicore' id='0' value='ON'

Did this ever make it in DIVA yet? I see this was requested back in 2013...I only have the demo, and it's still not working from what I can tell..

We never did it... the overall cost of multicore is quite high, even though we improved it in the last update. We still recommend to only keep the "live" instance on MC and either keep it off for "background" ones or freeze those.
On today's machines with 6 or more cores I think it's best to leave multithreading to the host. On Apple M1 CPUs the difference is 180 vs. 120 voices for Diva, meaning that Multicore adds 50% tax overall.

Can you explain this a bit more because I see a huge CPU usage drop in Live when I enable Multi-core on Diva (and Repro5 for that matter)Urs wrote: Sat Dec 26, 2020 2:58 pm We never did it... the overall cost of multicore is quite high, even though we improved it in the last update. Use Ableton as well and experience the same!

Is it just what Live's CPU meter reports, or are you using your OS CPU meter to see how things really are?

I get less stuttering when i enable Multicore. Also CPU usage in Abletons CPU meter drops.EvilDragon wrote: Wed Jan 06, 2021 3:29 pm Is it just what Live's CPU meter reports, or are you using your OS CPU meter to see how things really are?

I suspect you are talking about different situations. One instance of Diva, then yes, multi-core will give you more voices. But once there are a bunch of instances playing, then you are likely to get more total voices by keeping multi-core off for all those instances.canadian_moose wrote: Wed Jan 06, 2021 2:57 pmCan you explain this a bit more because I see a huge CPU usage drop in Live when I enable Multi-core on Diva (and Repro5 for that matter)Urs wrote: Sat Dec 26, 2020 2:58 pm We never did it... the overall cost of multicore is quite high, even though we improved it in the last update. With my old CPU, enabling multi-CPU was necessary when playing big chords. Otherwhise it would stutter. With my new CPU things work even if I leave it disabled. However I usually enable it to be on the safe side.
Generally I've never ever had trouble with the multicore option enabled either Diva or Repro-5. I've only had trouble when I forgot to enable it on older CPUs running 96 khz.
So the "multicore" option is great. I also think it should be enabled by default.

If you use Bitwig, you can turn on MC and then save that as the default device preset.
I would prefer MC off by default. I rarely turn it on anymore.
