FR: a sampler that samples

it's so hard to find a vst sampler that records audio into it like a hardware sampler, and is able to do so with a midi trigger or something other than a mouse. i have been using mxxx to morph field recordings into drones that i would love to be able to play without resampling and dragging files around into something else. i currently get this done with voltage modular, but to do it all inside of mxxx or msf would be amazing. it would open up a lot of other interesting possibilities as well..
in voltage modular i made a device that records into the buffer every time you play a note, so it's actually looping something based on how long the last note you played was, if that makes any sense. it's super glitchy and interesting sounding, and inside the meldaverse would go much further for me. now that I'm familiar with melda, i prefer the workflow and ability to be exact with gain staging and things of that nature

Isn't MSuperLooper or even the Looper module inside MXXX what you are looking for?

I am looping, but I want to play the sounds chromatically on a keyboard, or have them automatically transient slice mapped to midi for rhythmic stuff. it would make the sampler more immediate and inspiring to use in a live situation or even just to quickly grab sounds to see how they would sound in a sequence without having to record elsewhere and then browse for the file or drag it in. its probably a pain to make this happen since very very few software samplers have the capability. so far the only full featured one i know of is called TX16Wx, which is basically what my dream is to see inside of msf someday

From TX16Wx:
"Record your own samples
Samples sounds from DAW input or internal bus[1]
Threshold, transport and MIDI CC triggering
Automatic pitch- and loop detection and keyboard mapping
MIDI generator for re-sampling internal or external instruments[1]"

Ah okay, now I understand. Thanks for explaining further.patchetti wrote: Tue Dec 29, 2020 5:46 pm I am looping, but I want to play the sounds chromatically on a keyboard

I agree it would be great to do this in the melda system.
But in case you didn't know about this one already:
https://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/xfadelooper.html
It doesn't do slicing though. It is very low on cpu.

wow thanks that looks like something I've been looking for. too bad it's 8 years old and probably not going to get updated for mpe, vst3, etc. the delay looks great too with external feedback routing.ericzang wrote: Wed Dec 30, 2020 8:31 pm I agree it would be great to do this in the melda system.

Sounds like a job for a module in MXXX, hopefully one day.
