Diva is its own beautiful synth. It sounds gorgeous with minimal effort. It is a good compliment to Zebra, not an either/or (IMO). Whether it is for you, is up to you to decide.rumos wrote: Wed Jan 06, 2021 8:56 am Hi, even if this is about zebra and an outlook towards zebra 3, would it still make sense or a good idea to get diva right now?

He looks very powerful and sounds sound quite advanced and evolved apparently.
A very particular grain.
On the other hand the grip does not look simple.
There's a lot of options so you can go deep in to sound design. Great synth!

They are sitting on your machine, you play with them in your spare time and the idea that you must own a license slowly creeps into your mind.
It's not that there is a release date, an expected feature set or anynthing. It still may or may not be released next year, or the year following the next year, or some other year.

Hi all, I’m following this thread for some time now and have just registered. Just a quick question, although I’m aware that this question is about personal preference. My situation is as follows:
I started producing about a year ago and have watched many videos, but can’t make up my mind about which synth will suit me best. I produce mainly techno (minimal, industrial, Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Chris Liebing, etc.). I got a present from my lovely wife (“honey, go buy yourself a synth for the holidays”), I narrowed it down to Diva OR Zebra (eventually with Dark Zebra). I have tried both demo’s, but have very little experience with synth programming.
Which one suits my style best and will keep me happy for a longer period?
Any advice would be appreciated!

I actually would have gone Hive for your genres
.
But I would definitely say Zebra is the more flexible of the two (Diva and Zebra)
But my first question should have been, what do you already have?

Thank you for your quick reply. I own Synthmaster (1 and 2), Massive (1) and Monark. At first I was looking at the 'obvious ones' (Serum and Pigments 2), but then saw Diva (YT channel Yalcin Efe). I really like the sound of it, but because of some reactions within this thread, I also tried the demo of Zebra. Unfortunately, I lack synth programming experience. I don't know if I can make the same sounds with Diva and Zebra. And I saw that Zebra is more recommended for cinematic productions.zvenx wrote: Thu Jan 07, 2021 1:03 pm I actually would have gone Hive for your genres.

But do you recommend Hive? Will it sound as good as Diva/Zebra? Why Hive?

I think Hive's factory presets (and quite frankly its initial concept) was meant to be more Techno.
It is I think also easier to program stuff in, especially if you are now getting into it. It is also to me, almost like if Sylenth and Serum had a love child (of course now Urs is also adding a lot of modular based concepts to it)
But no, personally out of the three, to me, Diva sounds the best, then Zebra then Hive (although the rumoured next update of Hive suppose to have additional filters which might change my opinion then).

Is Hive more easy to program? When I search for tutorials, I find many about Serum, Pigments and Diva. But much less about other synths, including Hive and Zebra. This made me think about Diva in the first place, but then I saw much love for Zebra.zvenx wrote: Thu Jan 07, 2021 1:28 pm I think Hive's factory presets (and quite frankly its initial concept) was meant to be more Techno.

And do you think Hive will overlap with my current synths? Or Diva/Zebra?
Pfff..... why is this so hard/confusing for me...

I think Hive is easier to program but different people gel differently with different work flows.
You have tried the demo of it? That is the best way to figure out if it works for you..
Tbh I dont really see much overlap in what you have (beyond Monark and the Diva minimoog emulations) and either Diva, Hive or Zebra.
If I were you would I would download Hive right now and see if it gels with you, before the deadline (if you haven't already).

Since the clock is running down for the sale, I'd say go with Diva simply because it's the more straight forward of the two. For a many synth styles workhorse, Zebra is more streamlined than other similar synths, with a great workflow but it has some funny quirks and the oscillators in particular require some head scratching and practice to get good results with, imo.Dust_NL wrote: Thu Jan 07, 2021 12:55 pm I have tried both demo’s, but have very little experience with synth programming.
That being said, if you have time you should give Hive a go too, it covers way more ground than Diva with wavetables at your disposal on top of the usual analog style waveforms, but it is much more simple to use compared to Zebra. It has a typical subtractive synth layout/workflow but with a few tricks up it's sleeve to make more interesting, experimental sounds for dance music. Your ears will have to judge how good it sounds compared to Diva and whether it's more important to have a "better" analog character in Diva vs more sonic possibilities with Hive.
You might also consider getting Zebra and the Dark Zebra now, this way you get access to everything that Zebra has to offer in terms of possibilities with the addition of Diva's tasty filters via ZebraHZ. You'll also get a free upgade to Zebra 3 when that gets released, which is AFAIK will include the same or extended versions of features implemented in Hive like the wavetable engine and Shape Sequencer.
Always Read the Manual!

I got Diva now - an early birthday present from my wife
The decision was not so easy. I was torn between Diva, Zebra and Hive. Overall I liked the sound of Diva more, maybe because I got faster results that suit me out of it. Zebra can surely do the same or more but it will take me a lot more time and with Dark Zebra it was too much for me. Hive has a nice looking interface, but soundwise I like Diva more, and already got Dune for WT stuff...So maybe on the next sale in 2 years

Downloaded Hive and testing as we speak. I think you're right about looking at Hive too. Man, what a nice interface and sound wise it seems more into what I like.zvenx wrote: Thu Jan 07, 2021 1:57 pm I think Hive is easier to program but different people gel differently with different work flows.
