I understand the problem, although all patches created in Padshop Pro (1) are fully compatible with version 2 you won't be able to run version 2 on that old computer of yours, seems to be an unsolvable problem...Loopy C wrote: Thu Jul 30, 2020 12:04 am Given how much I love Simon's ('Sampleconstruct') work, AND, now that I have hardware that allows a newer OS install (I have a 'frozen' Mac Pro 2009 studio machine running 10.9.5 that has 'Padshop Pro' on it which needs to be available for older sessions)...upgrading to 'Padshop 2' suddenly became a priority for newer hardware!
Shouldn't be a problem right, given the license is on a separate dongle?
According to Steinberg, if I upgrade, I will NOT be able to continue to use 'Padshop Pro' on that 10.9.5 machine, as the 'upgrade' replaces the license required for 'Padshop Pro' with one for 'Padshop 2' which is NOT backwards compatible??
Has that been anyone's experience that can be verified?
If this is true, then I am not going to buy a new, full-priced copy just to keep current compatibility for older sessions....which is a disappointment to say the least given the release of 'Polarities'
Seems to defeat one of the advantages of a portable/multiple use license (i.e. 'dongle') if running newer versions of OS/Plug-in removes access to the an older/original install ONLY because of the licensing?
Anyway, if anyone has a different experience or information, I would love to hear from you
Thanks in advance

It might be a technical problem of the copy protection. I would send Steinberg a strong request that the Padshop 2 license would cover the PS1 as well... They could turn it into a NFR if it needs to be two licenses... Or try to get hold of a used PS1 license...

Thanks Simon and 'Tj Shredder' for your replies
I had been offline for the weekend, and when I got back on and checked my email...Steinberg support had replied with a solution in line with Tj Shredder's suggestion...completely on their own I might add!
So it appears I have my upgrade path without losing my studio machine's backwards compatibility...very pleased with Steinberg's support and solution, which translates into a lot of goodwill and positive bias deposited into their 'account' here
I want to review the e-licenser software procedure (especially the step where my original license is 'surrendered') to ensure a smooth upgrade, and then will hopefully get back to the ORIGINAL goal of picking up Simon's 'Polarities'.
Thanks again guys

On sale now. I've been through about 15 pages of this thread and have no idea whether it is any good as a vst. I'm not bothered about GUI scaling or third party patches. Is it any good? Cheers!

I think that might do more with how each of us use it?leeleema wrote: Thu Jan 07, 2021 4:57 pm On sale now. I've been through about 15 pages of this thread and have no idea whether it is any good as a vst. I'm not bothered about GUI scaling or third party patches. Is it any good? Cheers!
It is a stable VSTi under three hosts and a wrapper standalone for me. Presets are good (YMMV) and showcase what can be done with it well. There are excellent sounds available from excellent developers for it (also subjective). And it doesn't seem to be that much of a hit on my Xeon processors. And for the current price, it's a great deal. Not sure of what you're looking for to consider it "good" though. Maybe you can be a little more specific for what you're looking for?

where do you see on sale? are you talking about Padshop or the expansions that Patchpool makes?leeleema wrote: Thu Jan 07, 2021 4:57 pm On sale now. For padshop, just check the YTs.

FWIW.. I have it and to be honest, don't use it that much. Mostly because there are so many other synths I have. I think if you spend time learning it -- you will probably like using it.

As a pad vst, what I meant was is it any good for good pad sounds. As a pad vst, what I meant was is it any good for good pad sounds? But I think between the idiosyncratic copy-protection and other issues, I'll give it a miss. That's understandable. It took me awhile to make peace with the eLicense and I'm glad I did. But can definitely see it could be a better system. I like it over iLok because the app is less intrusive and support has been good and transparent. I was just thinking though that it would be nice to have that for travel along with my laptops or tablets. Looking at their current pricing towards a single license method has me wondering if they might ever do a (reduced) second pricing on that license for soft licenses. If my first license was the original price and then to have a soft license tied to specific machines at the upgrade/update price, then I would be likely to jump on that.leeleema wrote: Thu Jan 07, 2021 6:19 pmAs a pad vst, what I meant was is it any good for good pad sounds. Granted, selling it off would either require them all being locked together or the soft licenses being expired.
But yeah, they seem to be having a slow evolution towards something different.
As for pads, yes, it's great!

FWIW.. I recently migrated DAW systems from my old Mac Mini OS X to a Windows DAW. Moving the Steinberg software from one DAW to the other was much less of a PITA with the eLicencer than with the other software that is on iLok. It's nice to be able just plugin the USB dongle thingy in the old DAW if I ever need to check something about a project.BBFG# wrote: Thu Jan 07, 2021 6:32 pmThat's understandable. @OP .. I think if you just use Padshop Pro 2, I think you can get away with just the software eLicencer which is no cost. You don't need the USB dongle. (but better check with Steinberg just in case).

Haven’t even demoed it yet. How does the spectral oscillator differ from what it normally does? The description says this:
That’s what v1 can already do. You can select the play range, adjust the pitch, and play the grains in any direction. How is that different? It can play any sample at any speed, at any position, in either direction and at any pitch – that sounds exciting!

The spectral mode has a different set of primary controls to the regular Padshop. Random direction, Purity, Low cut and Inharmonic amount all allow you to get some way crazier sounds. It's like a completely new instrument.masterhiggins wrote: Thu Jan 07, 2021 7:51 pm Haven’t even demoed it yet. How does the spectral oscillator differ from what it normally does? Best time to upgrade Padshop Pro to Padshop 2 while it is 50% off. I think it is worth it.
