Hi all, my first post.
Just got MDrumReplacer in the sales and looking forward to using it properly.
I use Reaper v6 and when listening to certain samples from DrumReplacer, the track automutes.
I've checked this forum post which is similar:
viewtopic.php?f=138&t=557823
As I say though it is only certain samples from MDrummer packs. I have installed:
MDrummer Essentials, Studio2008-2018, ElectronicGenres and DrumEmpire2020.
The automute is strange as well because I can't just click the mute button to turn it off. I have to click on a couple of other sounds and it finally lets me sample the sounds again.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I only work in Reaper for a year now, but still: this sounds strange even to me. Are you sure that it 100% is the Reaper automute (happening when some clipping occurs)?Metal888 wrote: Thu Jan 07, 2021 11:06 pm The automute is strange as well because I can't just click the mute button to turn it off. Yes, it is Reaper automute. The plugin has built in meters and they hit 0dB, the sample that is playing goes silent and the track mutes and has the Automute icon.
I think it must be to do with the plugin and the levels it outputs and so certain samples trigger automute.
However, I am still perplexed by the behaviour of not letting me just click off the mute button. It makes a click when I try to do so. I'm thinking that maybe the plugin is responding by sending the same high level even though I've clicked on a different sample?

Can you give us more information about which samples exactly? Maybe we can reproduce it?Metal888 wrote: Fri Jan 08, 2021 3:27 pm I think it must be to do with the plugin and the levels it outputs and so certain samples trigger automute.
Sounds like the plugin might still send audio in that case so that the automute reacts again immediately.Metal888 wrote: Fri Jan 08, 2021 3:27 pm However, I am still perplexed by the behaviour of not letting me just click off the mute button. It makes a click when I try to do so.

It's all about volume, turn down the replacer. Reaper is saving your speakers since you are peaking well over +10dB, I think that's the threshold to cause that to happen.
Simply turn down the fader of the replacer track.
The output of your samples is trying to kill your stereo master buss.

I looked at the automute settings in preferences. It's set default at +18.

I’ll check that automute setting of +18 as it’s probable why my ears suddenly got blasted despite Reaper’s +0 limiter which has always protected them from mishaps in the past.Metal888 wrote: Fri Jan 08, 2021 6:15 pmThanks, will do.Dirk Diggler wrote: Fri Jan 08, 2021 4:53 pm It's all about volume, turn down the replacer. Which brings up a question.....When you insert a Plugin on a Track and that Track goes thru the Master, which is limited at +0, should it matter if the Plugin or the Track Fader is turned up if the Master is limited? I have my IEM’s plugged into a Headphone port on my Presonus Quantum, just trying to understand how I got the volume spike. Reaper? MDrumReplacer? Quantum?

Ah yes that would explain it, I wouldn't change the default since it's there to protect you.
There is no limiter on the Master buss, if it's in the red you're over, plain and simple as that.
I suppose you could put a limiter on the master buss but that would be a bandaid.
I would guess there's a master output from within Replacer? You could limit the Replacer channel.
But I would guess there's some of your samples are just not normalized to below 0dB.
One last thing to check is make sure your master buss volume is at 0dB, I've had mine mistakenly bump up before and not realized it until I got overs.

That's an interesting question. When I push the Master above 0dB, I get distortion, but it doesn't seem to get any louder. So how could my speakers or ears get damaged from loudness peaks?TenSeven wrote: Fri Jan 08, 2021 7:28 pm Which brings up a question.....When you insert a Plugin on a Track and that Track goes thru the Master, which is limited at +0, should it matter if the Plugin or the Track Fader is turned up if the Master is limited? Are there some other settings that influence the behavior of the master output?

I could be getting my terminology wrong about Limiters. I do know that normally if the volume is too loud it’ll show as clipping on the track and if too loud the Master will mute before getting to my ears. This wasn’t the case when I clicked on something in MDR (I’ll try to find it) and the volume spiked way loud seemingly bypassing the Master mute feature. I didn’t know that was possible. I now have Limiter ticked on MDR itself so perhaps that was my mistake.

Yes, that's the issue i had with certain samples.TenSeven wrote: Sat Jan 09, 2021 3:32 pm This wasn’t the case when I clicked on something in MDR (I’ll try to find it) and the volume spiked way loud seemingly bypassing the Master mute feature. Ah, so there's a limiter in MDR itself?

The Limiter button is located on the far right side, click on Toolbar, you’ll see it on the top right, fourth one down. It mentions what it is on the bottom of page 7 of the 126 page PDF.Metal888 wrote: Sat Jan 09, 2021 8:30 pmYes, that's the issue i had with certain samples.TenSeven wrote: Sat Jan 09, 2021 3:32 pm This wasn’t the case when I clicked on something in MDR (I’ll try to find it) and the volume spiked way loud seemingly bypassing the Master mute feature. I went through playing loads of samples last night, selecting them from the Drum Library section and playing them by pressing 'play' in the mixer section.
And as usual, when you go looking it never happens. Couldn't get any sample to reproduce the issue
