Never calibrated/used a vintage neve desk eh.
These types of differences I would consider normal for a well calibrated 80 series desk.
The vintage neve at my uni was calibrated 4 times a year and showed similar differences. Up to 4.5 db differences between channels, eq boosts at the same settings being sometimes as much as a 700 hz different etc.
It's not a gimmick, it's accurate to the original.
Fortunately for those that want it to behave more digitally... it can do that too!

I am surprised by specs like that being normal. Not that I have direct experience with high end consoles, only mid-level consoles I guess you could say. I would have expected better than +/- 0.5dB. Then again I am sure there are many consoles with wide tolerances that are known to sound great. Practically speaking, if a console sounds good and you just have to dial in the EQ to where you want it and it still sounds good, then it sounds good. Thanks for the info, if it's true, then it validates their TMT at least being accurate to the hardware. In terms of TMT I find it's hit and miss. if it sounds good I use it.smellypants wrote: Thu Jan 14, 2021 12:47 am Never calibrated/used a vintage neve desk eh.

Probably the oldest desks that I've used were a Neve VR and SSL SL 4000 G+ but I never calibrated them or performed any testing in that regard. I would *love to experience an 80s series.
Certainly, in context of mono channel output, it really doesn't matter. It would only matter if using two channels for a stereo signal are that out of balance and the result doesn't sound good because of it but then you would naturally do your best to compensate when listening if anything stood out as wrong.
As I suggest, I've never noticed anything being out of place on the few instances that I apply stereo processing. Maybe there were glaring imbalances that simply sounded good, worked because of the nature of the signals being processed or had a more subtle difference than channels 1 and 2 of the 80s series emulation.
Now I kinda want to know which channels marry best. If any. It'll probably be one massive disaster that sounds amazing.

I actually thought Dirk said they weren't planning to model an API and that a Amek strip or a full console version of the BX 2098 was coming first. Anybody know what's going on there?

Maybe Dirk was specifically referencing Brainworx plans? This was Lindell/LSR that did the development.SoundPorn wrote: Thu Jan 14, 2021 2:58 pm I actually thought Dirk said they weren't planning to model an API and that a Amek strip or a full console version of the BX 2098 was coming first. Not against the American Console A by Softube, but here is a comparison against the UAD version (if you are interested)

This thread is vintage KVR. "TMT is a gimmick". Sure it is. Glad Funkybot posted that graph.

Or Teksonik could be full of shit, consider that as a suggestion too. Can tell by this gem:Unaspected wrote: Wed Jan 13, 2021 11:38 pm Yeah, I would definitely consider that unacceptable. So maybe it is better to treat these strips as Teksonik suggests - with TMT providing 72 completely different consoles. Or one broken desk.![]()
No, one thing will happen: it will sound different, like a console made up of 72 separately-manufactured channel strips in eras where manufacturing tolerances probably didn't match what we have in 2021 (not to mention age of said consoles). "Better" or "worse" is purely up to the person using it.I then hit the TMT arrow. One of three things should happen.
1. It will make my snare sound better.
2. It will make my snare sound worse.
3. It will make no appreciable difference in the sound of my snare.

Very well guys! Kind of a necro-bump here, but even that that time of the year is almost here, for the ones that have a 50 or 75 monthly vouchers and are waiting for a sale on Lindell 50 (just like me), just seen in an email that the Lindell 50 is currently on sale for $99.99 (first time I see it at this price) using code LINDELL-50-9999. Remembering that normally, the monthly vouchers aren't aloowed to be used during the major sales, so it could be a good time to grab it...

Yeah. Bought a $75 voucher for EUR19, so I bought it for half that price (with VAT)The_Ogre wrote: Thu Nov 04, 2021 3:26 pm Very well guys! Well thanks for the necro-bump Ogre. I missed this little dig the first time around.....rezoneight wrote: Fri Jan 15, 2021 9:07 pm Or Teksonik could be full of shit,

I suppose if one equates "different" with "useful" or "advantageous" then yes having 72 "separately-manufactured channel strips" might provide a placebo effect.
Like I said there are three possible relevant outcomes.
1. It sounds better to the listener whoever that may be.
2. It sounds worse to the listener whoever that may be.
3. It makes no appreciable difference to the listener whoever that may be.
The irrelevant outcome would be:
4. It just sounds different to the listener whoever that may be.
Difference just for the sake of difference without a discernible advantage is pretty much the textbook definition of a placebo. So if you think this channel strip only brings #4 then you are the target demographic for TMT....
