Just saw our internal change log... that's happening... a new approach for the WT pos is being explored...

Post

Woo!

Post

Just a quick note, On Ubuntu Studio 2.1 beta works flawless in Carla but Ardour 6.5 seems to have problems picking the plugin up.
The last build before 2.1 beta had no problems on Carla or Ardour 6.5

Just wanted to mention it in case anyone else have the same problem

Thanks for the new filters !!! the combo is awesome :tu:

What I would like to see in Hive 2 is a button to zoom the hexagon...
something like this (sorry I'm on linux, I don't know the photo editor used)

Izmo skin is very well designed but painful for the eyes. It can become a cool Hive reimagination If it will be finalized in colors, synth modules accents, and get rid of the blurry feeling. Instruments with a lot of details should be in dark tones. It's not a rule but it is comfortable for the eyes in most cases.

"Classic" Hive has two annoying things:

1. Shapes modulators editing. You have to click on every block to edit it. It's hard to draw whole modulation lines and experiment with shape patterns on the fly.

2. Sequencer. It's not bad, actually, because it's like in other hundred synths but piano roll style view is the handiest way to draw pitched things, in my opinion.

So, I will buy Hive a second time tomorrow because of this upgrade. I pray for you and I'm sure you will finish UI & UX in the best possible way :)

The comb filter is so much fun! :)

Here are some suggestions for Hive Beta:

- The scope view should have an option "audio sum", which then is pre-selected by default. So then you could add two envs and still use the audio sum as third view. Now its a bit confusing to me when the sum disappears, and why. "None" should be always none.

- The scope settings could be saved along with the synth settings, if wished. For example a context menu entry "save as default", and "reset to default"

- Strange, totally missed the modulation indicators, nice. Currently only you seem to see the modulations in the direction modulation->target, but I would also like to know which control is affected by what, so the direction control->modulation.

What if the modulations of a control would be highlighted on shift clicking a control?

In the mod matrix, there could be the same activate button for each slot, so you would also see visually the targets.

- Also the knob position marker only as visible value marker is too small, in my opinion. Again a dynamic ring around each knob would highly improve readability.

- This is very specific, but it is still kind of annoying, if you use U-He synths in Renoise and haven't activated the "enable keyboard" option for the plugin (if you don't use the plugin bridge, which is pretty slow), then you can't use any select-box in the plugin, because the selected/clicked value won't be used. Only mouse wheel works then. I know that you are aware about this, but since other plugins do not have this problem, I guess there is a solution for this? Maybe you shouldn't/should use VST GUI select-box popups only, or system select-box popups? Or give it some other options?

- Swap filter settings, so filter 1 and 2 settings will be exchanged, and the filter envs, too, but not the routing. E.g. I have a comb filter on 1, and a cutoff on 2, and now would like to try the filter 2 before filter 1. Or maybe an option "FILT2" input on filter 1, as soon as "FILT1" is not activated on filter 2?

- Not for 2.1, but maybe it would be nice to have an additional "filter" fx which provides again all the available filters as a post fx section.

I have an idea: double clicking the outer area of a knob will reset the value, but double clicking in the center of the knob will activate/deactivate the modulation source view.

A single click in the middle will step thru each modulation source.

Would It be possible to have the readout for the comb filter in semitones like Vital?

Thanks

Not wrong!! it definitely is the handiest way to control a sequencer, for sure.

Piano roll in DAWs are the most convenient way of handling notes for sure, but I find them confusing in synths, in the sense that I never really know from which key or octave the sequence will play when I press a note. The step sequencer has the advantage of showing the relative value of notes (ie +2, -12..) so there's no possible doubt. (I don't discard the possibility that I'm a little dumb with piano rolls in synths :D)

Some thoughts from me :-)

* Thank you so much for this incredible update and the new skin
* I really would have loved to see 12 db/oct AND 24 db/oct bandpass and highpass filters as part of the filter additions, these are really REALLY useful for certain sounds
* You can add me to the list of voices who would eventually love to see FM in Hive, and this is not at all for atonal music; I absolutely LOVE Hive but have to supplement it with one of the usual wavetable synths (NI Massive / Massive X, Serum or Vital) because FM provides certain sound shaping possibilities which are simply not possible without it, specifically extremely aggressive / cutting sounds
* Not sure if I'm missing something (and if this was the case in the previous release too), but scrolling in the preset manager using the scrollwheel on Windows goes the opposite direction to what I would expect (scrolling up moves to the next page and scrolling down moves to the previous page), this feels so weird and unusual to me :|

FYI: I wrote the following before finding the dedicated thread. I think several others have raised similar points there.

Regarding the new skin:
* I think it looks great, but is too bright for my taste, I would love a dark variant of it
* I do find it much more cryptic than the regular stkin and much more colour-oriented which is a bit of an issue for me personally (I'm colourblind)
* When switching an oscillator to wavetable, I honestly don't see how I can go back to an analog waveform
* There's enough room for "Unison" in the oscillator section, is it really necessary to cut it short to Unis? In fact, I think with some careful refinement, it would be possible to avoid shortening a lot more words on the GUI (e.g. SVol, Sub Vol would easily fit there. These shorter terms are what I mean by cryptic.
* It was a bit confusing to me to see where the two filter modulation targets marked 1/2 go, obviously one is Mod and one is LFO, but there are no labels and only colours are used.

Overall, I think the new skin would be harder for a new user to get comfortable with, despite the fact I think it has awesome potential in changing our Hive workflow.

Huge thanks and big love, I'll be trying it out further and providing any further feedback I come up with :)

Cheers
Fotis

GUI lags extreme (especially Izmo) and there is still huge latency added when GUI is open.
