The Waveform User Guide hasn't been updated with new features in 4 years.

The current version was published on 2018-02-07.

I believe that I would rather have an updated User Guide, than any new undocumented features. :dog: :help:

And videos don't count as a substitute for a complete manual, as they are only a supplement to one.

There's a lot of it about. In the world of video plugins, Boris Continuum is on v14, but the manual is still v10. For a $700 suite.

An updated manual is coming with 11.5

Yay! Good news! :tu:

Great wotk @FigBug and co ( I'm assuming Bill Edstrom is the main author? ).
This will be no easy task I'm sure with how complex Waveform has become. The chapter on Groove Doctor alone will be complex ( which reminds me to make a FR on how GD could be more user friendly, but that's for another day I guess )

Yup, Bill is back onboard.

You had me at an updated manual.
That's great news.

I downloaded the latest manual 'User Guide 2021 v2', and I appreciate that this is still work in progress - but what happened to the sections on using Multi Sampler and Midi Pattern Generator? These were in the older version from 2018 'User Guide v5' (chapters 45 and 46, about 70 pages of content) but not in the new version as far as I can see.

Still mystified by chapter 38: "New in Waveform Version 8" in the latest manual.

And many of the other chapters still seem to contain screen grabs from Tracktion 7. WTF? I realize that parts of the older features still apply, but nothing on Sampler or Pattern Generator, and the rest of the new features since W8. Pity...

The version 11 is very incomplete, with missing graphics or placeholders for them. I still have the v9 manual, which has a lot of the missing sections. I am hopeful v12 is a near-complete rewrite, as there is too much emphasis on some aspects and barely a mention of others.

I sent an inquiry to the Tracktion Support Team several months ago, and this was their response:
I'm very sorry to keep you waiting. We're hoping to roll out an updated user guide with the next major Waveform upgrade.

Resources are a little tight and our customer's appetite for video content far outweighs that for a user guide. We do of course see great value in both and I hope to have more positive news for you soon.
Here's hoping! :tu:

I'm looking forward to a manual. There's many parts of Waveform I simply don't use due to a lack of documentation or tutorials. The old manual goes into too much detail on many things, though, and a simpler but more comprehensive manual would work great for 12.

Same here. The videos are great for showing introductory material, or explaining workflow concepts like the Arranger. Frankly, some stuff is easier by far to understand with two seconds of video versus a ton of paragraphs.

But there are so many features bundled into Waveform that no one ever, ever gets to them all. A written manual is great for those little things like the Insert plugin, or the Multi Sampler, or even "Auto Crossfade" on a clip. Sometimes, you forget little options.

Don't get me wrong: the manuals we have are great (9's is better than 11's). But they're incomplete on a lot of salient topics.
