I've been into music for decades. Mainly as a bedroom bassist. Got back into making stuff when someone pointed out it was easier now than ever to write stuff. I enjoy electronic music and synthwave is a guilty pleasure. Here is a piece I'm working on, as I learn more about how the tech/synths work. Thanks for your attention.

Is that the Korg M1 slap bass? It's been a minute, but a bit wild if you've put yourself through a Seinfeld rerun anytime lately, haha.

Gotta say that the slow buildup feels odd to me for synthwave (not that I have a lot of experience with the genre, other than the precursors like JMJ.) I expected the song to burst into action after the first bar or two but it just gradually builds its way up to full intensity. If that was a deliberate choice on your part I respect it, but I personally think it would have more impact if there were a clearer song structure.

Nice track though. I like it a lot after it comes together.

Yep and nope :D

It would be Seinfeld if the bass was full of pitch bends :D

The M1 is a great choice for some cheesy old school but still decent sounds. It has that quality, and the slap bass patch is great. I'd record my own slap bass but I play with flatwounds and don't much care for actual slap :D

But the piece is meant to evoke cheesy vibes. It' snot a pastiche but the chord sequence screams retro, so why not. Unfortunately it doesn't get on with Reaper very well.

The structure is a bit messy. But I actually like it. You can certainly argue that I've dragged it out (it's not finished), which is true, but I like buildup. It's meant to evoke eighties twelve inch remixes which were just dragged out for hours (and the dance floor, though I pity anyone dancing to this).

Thanks for listening

I really like your choice of sound on this one. Instantly makes me go back to that era!

Thanks, I appreciate that.

I'm using the TAL LX juno emulator on some parts. It's an amazing synth that's so easy to use. I've tried cipying it with Diva, to some success, but (and I'm no expert of course) TAL wins out on the Juno emulation front (though iirc diva emulates a slightlyd ifferent model).

I should really have rendered all the tracks bfore mixing as my cpu is getting damn near 80 degrees when mixing.
Anyway this is my first proper mix attempt. It's not full of fancy trickery, but I think it works: https://soundcloud.com/user151958515/an ... mated-hero

I rewrote the track. Now it's better, or will be when I learn how to mix. Hooray!
