Again, that is just your opinion. There's nothing factual about it. And, with all due respect, even with your MBA (ugh), I don't really think you are competent enough to judge about a company from the distance.
But, hey, let's see. According to you, Reason Studios will probably be dead in 3 to 5 years. At least that's what it sounds like, when you talk about poor business decisions, and all that. I hope you don't mind when I approach you after that time, to see whether or not your divination has become reality.

Love the idea of subscription, about bloody time. Sick of paying upgrade fees every year for minimal updates.
Subscribed immediately and got 50% off for first year

This addresses exactly none of the issues I have, then accuses me of equating two things I didn't equate. Bravo. Great post.antic604 wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 8:29 amIf you'd buy Reason 10 few weeks before 11 was out, RS would give you free upgrade too.briefcasemanx wrote: Thu Jan 28, 2021 10:04 pm Yes exactly. I bought S1 pro right before S5 and sphere came out, and Presonus gave me a free upgrade and made sphere optional without messing up the perpetual license tiers.
Zero issues with that. Presonus did it right.
The difference between Studio One Pro and Artist is not just some extra devices, but also a lot of core DAW features. You're somehow equating going down from Reason Suite to Standard, to going down from S1 Pro to Artist, which is nowhere comparable. Especially because you keep everything that makes Suite "special", i.e. all those REs. It's just a "name", not a real DAW tier.

They're not fees, as you don't have to upgrade.
And it's not every year - it's more like 2-3 years on average.

You obviously feel "hurt" because RS axed Suite, but - which is my point - comparing that to a hypothetical situation when Presonus would kill Pro version is completely wrong.

That they offered the same thing as before, just added a subscription option. They didn't switch up the offerings in a way that was bound to piss people off.antic604 wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 1:15 pmSo what is your point bringing Presonus into this?briefcasemanx wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 1:10 pmThis addresses exactly none of the issues I have, then accuses me of equating two things I didn't equate. Had I bought Pro earlier and not gotten it for free it still would make some sense to upgrade to version 5. I still would get some actual benefits from upgrading. That's the key concept, getting actual benefits from upgrading. I WANT to give Reason Studios my money.

So your complaint is that RS should've waited with Reason+ announcement for later this year, when 12 is ready? And then you'd upgrade to 12 "getting actual benefits from upgrading" so you wouldn't be mad at Reason+???briefcasemanx wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 1:32 pmHad I bought Pro earlier and not gotten it for free it still would make some sense to upgrade to version 5. Sorry, but that's silly
You don't have to get Reason+ now. Or ever, for that matter.

I own a perpetual license for Reason and many rack extensions.antic604 wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 9:07 amRight. Well, if you don't have a perpetual license and want to try an RE, you need to have Reason or Rack Plugin to load it into it, so you either buy a license or start a sub (free or otherwise).DrFolder wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 8:53 amNo I mean subscribing to Reason+ automatically when you try to download a trial. The 30 day trial of an instrument or effect means a 30 day trial of Reason +.

I think the big problem is that people feel like they're being forced into a subscription model to keep up with something close to what Suite offered, which was more stuff.Atlatnesiti wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 1:06 pm Love the idea of subscription, about bloody time. Here's the bigger issue, most veteran music creators have plenty of stuff already, and the idea of being forced fed stuff every release date might seem a bit overboard, when they're only looking for a specific area of stuff.
I also believe that once a person acquires enough knowledge over the years of music creation, they no longer need all the new stuff or even the workflow improvements, features, bug fixes, etc. They just work with what they've got and make music.
Who wants to basically put a virtual parking meter in front of their studio door in order to make music?

I nearly upgraded to suite in the sale late last year, but bought a a fair few VSL vouchers instead.
Anyway, I don't do subscription software as a matter of principle. It still seems possible to transfer licences though, so I do credit it them with that.
As for the YouTube Webcast thing - I can't remember seeing anything so cringeworthy in a long long time. It was toe-curling.....

It is amazing to me that some still think that Suite was supposed to just be a one of "bundle" deal. It has been said that we were not "promised" anything.
When I get a "bundle" it comes with different items (just like Suite). If I take this analogy, then I should own Reason 11, and some extra racks that I got with my bundle. But it is not a bundle..my splash screen for Reason 11 does not say Reason 11. It says Reason 11 Suite. That does not imply a bundle. It implies a different product, maybe even a different tier.
No matter what, even if they include additional devices with Reason 12, unless it is Reason 12 Suite, and even though I get to keep all of what I have, it degrades my license.
If they had offered Reason 11, and said that they were doing a special bundle, I probably would not have gone for the bundle...I don't like to encourage them to do things like that. I would have merely upgraded hoping that their formula had not changed.
Suite changed the formula, and now they want to change it back. It is not dishonest, it is not a ripoff...it is, to quote myself. Disappointing!
And I see FL Studios pulling stuff. Covid has driven these guys mad!

What are you even talking about? Your responses don't even make sense. Your method of arguing by latching on to a specific word or phrase and then ignoring all context surrounding that idea, and all context that's been established in the greater conversation makes me think you're either being willfully ignorant, or you're 13 years old.antic604 wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 1:42 pmSo your complaint is that RS should've waited with Reason+ announcement for later this year, when 12 is ready?
