I am getting a new macbook pro 13" with the M1 chip set.
Just want to know if there are any problematic compatibility issues with the M1 chip?
Should I pay more for the i7 version of the same mac to avoid any issues?
I'm mostly referring to compatibility with Hive, Diva, Zebra.

We are working on full Big Sur compatibility, and we are also working on compatibility with the M1 chip.

No you definitely shouldn't pay more for the i7.
Aside the GUI/Automation nuissance related to Big Sur (not M1!), u-he plugins work perfectly fine on my M1 MBP, and it runs better than my i7 6-core Mini did.
You'll get same issue by buying a new i7, since you can only install the software your mac shipped with. (it's really hard to install an older OS even if it was supported at one point)
I have the three you mentioned and they all work better than on a desktop i7, even via rosetta. For mobile, it's not even a contest. Go for it

Thanks for the reference topics. I'll be Ableton Live mostly. So that might help avoid any mentioned issues with Logic and Garageband.tasmaniandevil wrote: Fri Jan 29, 2021 8:42 am We are working on full Big Sur compatibility, and we are also working on compatibility with the M1 chip.

Thanks. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow, and after over a decade with this old mbp, I'm a bit excited and hyped about it. Smaller size, but much cheaper price now.Ploki wrote: Sat Jan 30, 2021 3:53 pm No you definitely shouldn't pay more for the i7.

(BTW I'm waiting for the next gen iMac. My MBP is 2020, and sadly I can't justify buying another for a good while yet!)

Just finished setting up my new M1 Mini. got the 16Gb version with 1Tb SSD, so far I'm really pleased with it! It's handling projects my 2014 iMac chocked on with ease including heavy use of Diva.

Yeah, I got one too, and I'm super happy with it. It plays Divinity 2 quite well, also, if you're into that (especially for a computer without a graphics card). But! If you are interested, you might have to buy it on the App store as opposed to Steam - check first because when I bought it, the Apple Silicon update was only available via the App store.

Thanks. I just installed Hive2 and everything is working great. Better than my 2009 mbp. The hard drive has been going dead on it for too long, and after some years of doing no sound work, I'm going to get back into it now.Howard wrote: Thu Feb 04, 2021 9:00 amCongrats, mcnoone!mcnoone wrote: Wed Feb 03, 2021 3:06 amIt's supposed to arrive tomorrow, and after over a decade with this old mbp, I'm a bit excited and hyped about it.
