Yeah there's a loooooooot of work left to do, but hopefully something happens with it before this year ends!
It wont go bonkers in the sampling sub, put it in the instruments forum, watch this shit explode, trust me, SC1 was a staple for a lot of people.
Duh

It was for me, I still load it occasionally for sound design when I want to think differently.

Not much help but there was something about SC2 I really liked and tried to move over to it full time (even in beta), maybe the mapping was easier or something. Is the beta still kicking around?

bungle wrote: Wed Feb 03, 2021 7:24 am Holy shit, SC1 was an absolute beast, this is hopefully amazing news, SC2 never really jelled for me, SC1 was just right.
I also feel SC1 did many things right, and SC2 feels unfinished. Well, we will finish it. Or at least try to :)

Once we get to something tangible, input from diehard SC users will be super important, so I am counting on that too (either here or on our Discord)!

You can still download both SC1 and SC2 directly (I think on vst4free or the like).

Please let me know exactly what was it that you liked more about SC2.

Cool

I second the notion that there were a few things I preferred to do in SC2 vs SC1, even though SC2 was overall more unrefined and beta in development.

In my memory stacking two or more samples on the same key while being able to independently edit each separately (eg ADSR for each sample, highpass filter on sample A and lowpass filter on sample B...) was even quicker and more intuitive to do in SC2 than in SC1.

And if I remember correctly SC1 had this weird attack issue, basically like a slow attack envelope of a few ms. This could result in a less pronounce initial attack weak in transients, especially with drums / percussive sounds. It was probably fixed in the last version.

Where can we find the Discord?

https://surge-synth-team.org/contact-us/ - there's a Discord link, I guess it's the one ED mentioned

Post

Yup that's the one. :)

@EvilDragon
Will it be the same as Surge, no Win 32-bit VST2?

Post

32-bit is still possible, but VST2 license is not compatible at all with open source projects (however those who have VST2 SDK will still be able to build from source code for themselves). It's also being ported to JUCE. :)

Are you really working on a new version of Shortcircuit? Happy news

Post

Slowly, but surely!

Well, I just did that. Let's see if it really does go bonkers.

Yes, SC1 has initial attack at 0.9 ms iirc and that cause me to not continue to use it anymore years ago

aww c'mon, that was, like, a decade ago... maybe it was just the prettier gui. :hihi:

I'll download the beta and have a look, do remember that you had to do something weird with virtual shortcuts or something in the sample folders?

Post

Yes you need to create a shortcut to folder(s) with samples you want to use in SC2's browser, then run "refresh database.cmd". There's a readme file in there that explains it all. :)

We won't do it like that, rest assured. :D

SC2 was unfinished, early beta stage, SC1 was a finished & polished one, in fact there was that 1.1.2 version that corrected some bugs appeared in the 1.1.1 & all the previous 1.0.x.
It'd be easier to start from SC1, but the fact is that the project needs developers.
