You alter the phase somehow, so the frequencies get dispersed, which smears the transient and some frequencies move before and others after. You could probably use Ratio to switch between the dry and altered version based on dynamics though.
Ratio idea makes sense.

I was just thinking perhaps there was a way to shift the resonance to post-ringing, but I guess it makes sense that one side is skewing the opposite direction from the other, so perhaps I just need to do it asymmetrically so there's a greater positive phase shift, and lower negative that adds up to 360.

Does anyone know of any tool (Melda or otherwise) that will allow me to draw phase curve like this without the artifacts I'm hearing when I stack these?

Freeform Phase ist perfect for this. The trick is to set the quality to low, so there are no boxy resonances and no latency:

Disperser.jpg
You can set up MFreeformPhase like this, define the frequency limits with dragging the points to left and right, define the strength with depth and you can adjust the curve if you want on top!

Hello,

I’m noticing disperser can make the sound more analog & full, specially bass.

Some analog synthesizers eg. produce the same behavior as disperser.

Is this right?

In M Auto Dynamics Eq there is also all pass filter
But there isn’t any visual shape for it unlike others.

I think it has a complex stacked filters contours. It usually sounds like plastic or laser due to many phase variations & delays.

You can use Melda Multi Band feature & utilize all 7 bands adjusting the bands splits to analog algorithm then you can stack the bands shifting them specially in the sub to lo mid range
from 40 Hz to 300 Hz.

If you want warmer sound you can adjust saturation for each independent band.

I recently learned a cool technique, which basically is allpass-filter based. Someone told me that disperser does exactly only this; Vojtech already mentioned it. I want to go further and share the knowledge, since it can even be done in different Melda plugins:

MPhaser (free version!)
  • Set feedback to "silence".
  • Set up two multiparameter:
  • 1st MP is for the min and the max frequency.
  • 2nd MP is for the mode, which is the "stages" thing then. Might be the "Amount" knob of the disperser plugin.
Here is a preset I re-made. Original idea is not by me, but by a colleague:

Code: Select all

MAutoDynamicEq (or other EQs with allpass bands by Melda):
  • Set all bands to allpass.
  • Set up three multiparameter:
  • 1st MP is for ALL the bands frequency so they all have the same frequency.
  • 2nd MP is for "stages", which basically just enables or disables them. In MAutoDynamicEq you can have up to seven parallel all pass filter then.
  • 3rd MP can be for the bandwidth (Q).
Here is a preset I made:

MTurboFilter (not yet released, though ... so things might change in the future)

I do not want to write a detailled list, since you get the preset code anyway down there. Actually I basically just set up allpass-filters in parallel series, while the amount can be controlled via the complexity knob. Additionally I set up saturation knobs for all the bands and the main plugin.

Here is the preset:

Code: Select all

$eNq1VV1P2zAUfedXXN2+bNLa2kn6pSVBUNoJibBCOvYw7cGkbuvNjTPbGWUP++1T0i+aAhoSJC-O9fXxOfcex-7xciHhN9dGqDRA2iAIPE3URKSzAHM7rXfxODzyo3Gub9VQSMu14daKdGagFiBFqJ3ImdLCzhcB1sw3ln00zL5L3n9HqPXVIpN8Kex9gJQg1IYBeo02adEOod1Wr4tQuwqQNGhv87TcIpYzWS66UHcIfZVaraTk2gxSdiv5JECC0M+15qkdaW64PT8LcMxmQosfufl7ImXGjIGIzUQCDsJgIqzSsfjDA6QObX9oey7CxXWcSWEtL2dogG16EHUCdNwOQsSWF8PPp1IlP1cwroMQ8aIefSUlywyfxJZrrsqqRLm0YsQ0W+ynlMxvNvXudV3iEQz9Sno1QOCMT1ku7Q2TOS8K5rhOr0cIoZ7XQvj05XylMFKTgvGl0gsmEYrP3dclW-AAh5r-ynma3CPEGd8wKnBX2af3MBXaWMg2u2Pob5nAMJfymqUzHqCHsI2vsUuDQB0ebLKhjM3Qb1ZkVXXSA52kt367jue9TGhs2YybN1C5NTzUYefwfaVPQUVsudXWIk7rALziBKivEsDbjEpQugVCWIOTBvG6CPGcZXx7TOiOVaONoV-Ohv5IidRCEmCdNDoIQ8lm5jRA6lGE8X1W0FATDk6ppMzdS1mWwMWZLpu6Bm1u6R00mlYb7Rw0ev8P8JI+X72lka+eNbBT1eVWdb3QsszmmlmhUrhl6eQp8464TnhqDf6nzzqtDmm3Oh3P7T2ttD9nmiVFlR44qv2IaLcq2ns10Qsm0lfSfCB0t80DgV7PebbB3kHEFLdhOXBC-6uY2HkU+rHKdcJhpPm0LGd5e67wNinNzaIjf6ikVHfR+dl5QflS2eJSwmZ4tDqeFOLxYDS6HsSD8QplPeE8MrFCpcWw+cglbcKjf2VxjVE=

Looking forward to feedback; especially by the audio pros, which might even be able to expand these presets, hm? (-;
