So because I have a $50 loyalty voucher, I actually get penalised as minimum spend is $75 to use it. Bit unfair, but as I still picked it up for $39.99 (+ taxes) still a good deal in my opinion.chk071 wrote: Fri Feb 12, 2021 12:11 pm There's a general discount on it (it's $39.99 with a voucher code - KNIF-3999), and people also use their $25 lovalty voucher.
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

So, watching the demos, it's ka-nif-onium not knife-o-nium as i expected?

I would say nif. The k being silent. The k is silent in knife too. Nobody ever says ka-niff-e unless they have a problem.

I've never so much as seen a photo of the original, so that definitely doesn't apply to me.Jkist wrote: Fri Feb 12, 2021 8:06 amThey modeled the UI directly after the hardware unit, and it probably feels just like home for those who have actually used the real thing.
Why isn't it? It makes perfect sense to me to present a familiar paradigm to users. But I have said it many times before, and I will keep saying it. Directly copying the interfaces of hardware into software versions isn't the best practice.
Which this plugin most assuredly does. There are switchable panels containing effects, an arpeggiator and global settings. When you CTRL-Click a control, it reverts to it's default state, CTRL-Click again and it goes back to the previous value (never noticed that in any other VSTI). You can also use SHIFT-Drag for finer control of values.Aspects of the hardware should of course be brought over, but the software version of plugins really ought to take advantage of things only the virtual world can offer.
Because the original interface was very good? That's certainly the case in this instance, everything is laid out logically and the signal path is easy to follow. Why just accept the constraints and design choices made by the original designers?
Point me to a successful, popular synth that doesn't use knobs or sliders, in one form or another.Jkist wrote: Fri Feb 12, 2021 9:25 amBecause the only way we can convey something is able to be interacted with in the digital realm is with knobs, yep.
Sorry, not seeing it. PhasePlant may not use realistic looking graphics but it absolutely follows the same paradigms. It even has a Mod Wheel, FFS. And I don't like how stupidly small so many of the knobs are. I think it's actually quite poor UI design.SLiC wrote: Fri Feb 12, 2021 9:41 amIn my opinion software synths that don't try to emulate old hardware synths (with all their inherent limitations and quirky interfaces) are normally more interesting and easier to use (Phase Plant would be a good example)...
The labels on Vacuum Pro are either black on light green or white on dark grey and they are exactly the same size as Knifonium and Phase Plant. It's every bit as usable as any other VSTi I own.Dasheesh wrote: Fri Feb 12, 2021 10:21 am i was thinking vacuum pro might be the closest comparison, but you can actually see the gui without a magnifying glass. who ever told air to put dark lettering on a dark background 3 pixels high should be imprisoned imo.

The GUI is fully scalable so the knobs are plenty big enough on my 34 inch monitorBONES wrote: Fri Feb 12, 2021 1:12 pmSorry, not seeing it. Knifonium is said exactly as it is written. The 'K' in Knif, as in Jonte Knif, isn't silent at all.Aloysius wrote: Fri Feb 12, 2021 1:09 pm I would say nif. The k being silent. The k is silent in knife too. Nobody ever says ka-niff-e unless they have a problem.
