Damn.. I remember someone giving me Axis Mutatis on CD as a gift when it came out. It took quite a few listens to digest it properly in my early teens.
I had the same thing with Underworld - dubnobasswithmyheadman.

It's exactly what all PA plugins eventually go for.
I hope that's the case for gig performer at some point, but I'm not confident given the developers stated stance on discounting:

SSL essential bundle for 49.99
How do these compare to the Waves stuff?
Are they significantly "better"?

Not sure, but at least SSL doesn't charge you for updates like waves does. It still uses iLok, but you can fit the license on your laptop rather than a physical key like waves cloud.

It goes on sale on plugin alliance sometimes, as it was during the holidays.

my personal opinion yes, waves ssl stuff are outdated analog emulations whereas the ssl channel strip plugins dont try to emulate analog for the most part

From my personal point of view, this is the best algorithmic SSL set of plugins. Sonimus would be the other one for me. Everything else (algo) such as waves, ik, pa... it's meh compared to this (though as little as I like CLA -the guy-, the newer mixhub strip actually does sound good). Having said this, if you already have the classic waves, and know how to use it, I'd say you're good.
If I need algo (low cpu) plugins for SSL purposes I go with the oxford SSL native or Sonimus. But most of the time, I just pick Acustica Sand. For full disclosure, I would also add that he SSL sound is not my thing anyway.

for that specific 4k e/g sound in native and every day use, PA and slate are definitely usable and better options than the old waves stuff.

The SSL bundle is so good! The channel strip is way better than I imagined it would be too.

Thanks to the original poster of that deal :)

still looking for cheap picks on Plugin Boutique so I can get the free AAS Objeq delay, I've turned up a toy piano but also a filterbank by Minimal Systems. I'm demoing it but most there are only 2 bands rathan than five bands activated in the demo.

I know it's an old plugin, anyone got it?

I take it you're looking for the cheapest thing you can find that could be potentially useful?

Check out PB's deals page, if you haven't. There are several options there in the $5 to $9 USD range.

On the off chance you don't have PhoenixVerb or can use another license, it can be had for $9 USD.

Maybe Orb Synth for $5 USD? https://www.pluginboutique.com/products/7075

thanks for the suggestions. Yes I've looked at the current deals but I know there is also some cheap stuff not on sale.

I have the Phoenix Verb so that's not an option. I'm less keen on getting another synth, I already have more than I ever use :(
