Why doesn't Trash 2 get much love at this price ?

First time I hear about these plugins.I just listened a demo on YT.It is very extreme and not much musical to my ears.It might be interesting for a special effect perhaps,but it is not an allround distortion as versatile as Trash2.Each his own thing...

For all out distortion i think Maul was probably the best of all those types of plugins. FXpansion got gobbled up by ROLI though so its pretty much abandonware. Also, it's not the best thing for multiband, as the crossovers phase cancel against one another and that was never addressed through its life cycle, but the algorithms themselves are far better than the basic waveshapers you get in Trash, MWaveshaper, Thermal and the like. Oh well. It's not a big deal if you use something like Metaplugin, Live, or Bitwig. Crossovers are pretty much a standard now in most modern DAW's

the bad side for me is iZotope. and I say this as a long-long-long-term owner of iZotope plugins.
They've lost their way as a company - and the timing seems to fit in with the company receiving huge investment from a venture capital fund called ABS Partners (around the last quarter of 2013)

Nowadays, I couldn't buy an iZotope product and expect the same level of service and respect for my custom as I was used to.

Upgrade pricing is chaotic, support only so-so.

Trash 2 kept crashing my sessions so I uninstalled it. The cure is to install as admin but why the heck doesn't their uberinstaller know this (izotope central or something).

Anyway, plenty of other great sounding and reliable plugins for trashing the sound.

I like Trash 2, but one weird annoyance for me is their stupid floating window for presets. I know it’s a weird gripe, but I dislike it popping up and blocking the info behind it. Isotope seems to do it for all their plugins... Other than that it seems like the GUI Trash 2 is dated and kinda small. Sound wise, I dig it along with all the other isotope plugins

There is a checkbox "show presets at startup" in the preset window. Just disable this option.

Evidentally Trash 2 hasn’t been getting attention for quite some time
I like it. Subtle overdrive takes some adjustment but works. Crazy distortion is easy!
For subtle overdrive i often use PSP plugs that are made for the purpose but work quite well.

Whilst the waveshaping in Cableguys is one of the better waveshapers, it's still just a basic waveshaper with some additional bells and whistles not directly related to the distortion e.g crossovers, modulators etc

To my ears Driveshaper is one of the better waveshapers. Cableguys have some of the best DSP chops in the business. Their plugins dont have phase issues, introduce unwarranted processing artefacts or do anything untoward to degrade the quality of your signal.

If I want something thats analogue modelled in a way that responds dynamically to source material like hardware I reach for Sknote Anytesla, Phi-L Audio Tube Preamp or more recently Swankyamp. These are all much more advanced algorithms. Swankyamp in particular is novel tech from a nuclear physicist.

I don't know what Softube Harmonics is, but it doesn't appear to affect waveforms as standard waveshapers do (even with their dynamic thingie disabled)
