The demo conditions (30 day time limit) as well as the price for the full-version (€59 for a synth with over 2000 sounds) are fair.
If you still think it is too expensive:
There is a lot of good freeware out there

Or stick with Icarus 2 and Gladiator 3 licenses i have and move to Xils lab

I'm not a big fan of time limited demos either. I'd prefer something like 15-30 minutes per a session (i think that's how the Icarus demo works)

But the synth does sound very nice.

Am I missing something or is there only one LFO with only one destination?

How do I retrigger the oscillators? (loop mode -> static?)
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

It's a bit sad to see (hear ) that the drive section in the filter is actually a post amp drive
Here's a screenshot , filter disabled ..just a decaying amp envelope , first section shows drive off (nice decaying curve ) , second section shows with drive on
Notice how the drive affects the shape of the decaying amp envelope , and is just a post amp drive and not filter drive

ANd here with attack decay ( only amp envelope , filter bypassed )

So, one month it's not enough.
If it were me I'd make a special version just for you that demos for a week.
I see all of you working for free for markus.
Good for markus but not for me.
I didn't say make it free . He can disable save and load.
we're not working for free; we have a 1-month contract, and cannot save or load.... :D

yes, i don't think the drive knob is gonna get much use here either.

If you don't like the sound and the concept don't buy it. There are enough other alternatives available

I bought it and generally like it but I do think there is room for improvement.

Mousewheel support seems to be limited. For example, there is no way to scroll through filter types or effect types. For those of us with RSI (repetitive strain injury), mouse clicks can be painful.

I really hope preset management gets an upgrade. I was surprised that in order to find Pad presets, I had to open each bank and visually search for patches with the right name. There should be a way to group or filter presets by category. Then my attempt to save my own edits to a preset to a different bank was unsuccessful. I tried a confusing series of steps (copy, paste, save) but when I reopened the synth, the sound wasn't there. I don't understand why Icarus' patch management wasn't reused since this is primitive in comparison.

While I had some requests (which are mostly fulfilled now in the actual version) with the preset system too and can understand this comparision I think its important to see that these have total different concepts (which Markus makes very clear from the beginning), this just does not want to be something like Icarus or Electra but just a simple, easy to use, one-window synth more or less a Firebird 2021 with the options available today but following the same concept in general (at least thats how I understood this thing).

Thats the "strength and weakness" of this synth and while of course this leaves room for improvements (and there had already been some added) I think the extent of is is limited "in nature". And thats - in the end - leaves only: take it or not.

I cant imagine really any situation where I would think about using Warlock instead of Icarus or Electra, just completely different things.

Just my 2 cents...

I can appreciate the one-window concept for sound design. Those limitations streamline and simplify the sound design process.

But not having a normal preset management system is a hindrance to usability and sound design in my opinion. It reminds me of 80s DOS programs where each program had its own quirky set of commands for file management before UIs became standardized.

Post

In case of "normal": its nearly the same then Spire had till last update :-).

But I would prefer (and haved asked for it as soon as the first version was out) a "real" preset system and browser like in Icarus too but I see that it just dont fit with the general concept (at least in the eyes of the develloper and that was counts in the end) and can accept it now that really basic functionallities have been added and most evil bugs been fixed.

And I wonder if anybody ever complained about it in Firebird (I dont) :-).

Maybe if the dust has settled after official release and the main construction sites been fixed......

Post

And here I am using multiple instances of Warlock in a new project today.

Instead I should have spent the day finding something to complain about instead of focusing on the great sounds it can make........ :dog:

Aren't the presets saved in your project? They are in my projects across multiple DAWs.

We've got room for 384 User Patches as it is now and more are accessible by simply loading an .fxb file which can have the name Project XY.

So I'm not seeing the value in drag and drop since I normally don't have a Browser open when I'm working on projects.

But it's up to Markus how he wants to spend his development time.
You have not understood what I wrote !

The UserA-C banks are useless for changing projects with always changing presets.
You can not save .fxb files and named .t2b files are not stored in custom bank only one presets.
Nearly every DAW has a integraded browser, there you could simply exchange presets with Drag/Drop.

I found that Chorus, Flanger and Phaser damping drastically the original sound. Simply to test and verify.

I don't have this in other VSTis.
