OKay - this my be a newbie question -but hey!
I've jus switched from my all singing all dancing Sonar to racktion because I got sick of the bugs, the reqire problems ec.
However, how can I step program my VST synths? I can find a step piano roll editor? the help info was pretty useless!

Tracktion doesn't come with a step-sequencer component.. BUT.. there's an excellent free step-sequencer called Stepchild that does quite a nice job!!
Sonicbytes ERA is a for-pay step sequencer that has more features, but I've never found Stepchild lacking (so far).
Go to ModuLRs site http://www.subminimal.org/ and download Stepchild (it's in Tools)! Read the directions, it's a little bit of getting used to how it works, but once you know the tricks it's a nice bit of kit!

A second vote for Stepchild.
Alternatively, and less elegant-- make a new MIDI clip that's the size you want to program (ie. 2 bars). Press "page up" or "page down" to move the cursor to the beginning and end points. If you're at the beginning, press "i" to mark "in". If you're at the end, press "o" to mark "out".
Now your clip is perfectly between the in and out markers. In the bottom right controls, press the "loop" button and it'll just keep playing that section when the play button is pressed. Do NOT continually record, though, as it'll just keep stacking up or replacing MIDI clips in that area. Instead, draw your notes in, and press "play" to audition your changes.
To get to the piano roll in general (you may not have even found it yet!) you need to insert a new MIDI clip, and then double-click the track to instantly resize it, or drag the bottom of the clip to resize it in realtime.
