i like lcd sound system. they get it. so does Dntel.

man i had to dig very, very deep for this. so hard to find. i like these guys(guy/girl) tho.
im assuming it wasn't much harder than putting the name of the piece in to the search.

yes, they get it.
others seem not to ...

not really, when you type oto into google you get something very different.
well yes, by using one word.
maybe use the full artist and title. and search on pootube not poogle, it tends to find the music videos first that way ;)

and there you have it himalaya, and i like some of you preset guys. i hear you know what you are listening to, and yet, how can i turn on an instrument that has everything done for me and call it my own? i am struggling with this. i cannot call a song my own if it's all presets. i can program my own instruments, and as soon as i do, someone goes... oh, that's "such and such", well, no, but i'm sure it was already done. f**king useless.

The Autechre, Clark, and Ochre tracks are objectively distinct from each other sonically (new tracks to me). I only liked the Ochre one, though, to put on my playlist (I do like other Autechre stuff). Didn't know about Ian Boddy and Trifonic--added to my playlist--cool stuff. New-to-me sounds in that Shpongle track (but not grooving with me--I like Star Shpongled Banner-Remastered, though).
Ok, the first one on your list "Autechre". I just listened to "Autechre - 1 1 is".

Did I miss something ?

To my own untutored ears it sounded like a child hitting random keys on a loaded sampler with all sorts of drums and sound FX.

"Beyond the Outer Loop" by Ochre was OK.

"Carbon Based Lifeforms "Accede" was OK. A continuous pad with a few bits going on. The accompanying videos seem to be a big part of this genre. Music should stand on its own without the need for visual stimulation.

Xanopticon - These Days. What can I say ? Noise ?

There are people who sit around memorizing presets, and there are people who make music with whatever sounds or tools they have at their disposal. Ask yourself which one is most important to you.

@dellboy

you need to get to chiastic slide and earlier. a little after that they just started playing with the concept of sound as sound. i saw them in the later stages and they just blasted heavy metal clips at the audience. it was thought provoking, but almost intolerable. i think they were making a point. they were already bored a little beyond that.

I'm glad to know that you like some of us 'preset guys' :D

The solution to your predicament is very simple, and goes without saying: Let it go. Use whatever fulfils the mission and ignore what others think or say. The mission here is making electronic music. Right? Why do you care what others say? As long as you are happy with the music piece, why do you worry about others? You will be criticised no matter what. If you were to build your own synth, then make the most original sounds on it, and make a ground breaking track, somebody will come along and rubbish it in one sentence. Who cares. Are you happy, fulfilled with your creation? If yes, then mission accomplished.

No, the kids are to blame for everything. And also the Russians. And especially the Russian kids (I have two of them in my house so I know what I'm talking about!)

If Eat Static are the preset guys, then I'd like to know how to store presets for this thing :hihi:

Reminds me of this old chestnut...

"I thought using loops was cheating, so I programmed my own using samples. I then thought using samples was cheating, so I recorded real drums. I then thought that programming it was cheating, so I learned to play drums for real. I then thought using bought drums was cheating, so I learned to make my own. I then thought using premade skins was cheating, so I killed a goat and skinned it. I then thought that that was cheating too, so I grew my own goat from a baby goat. I also think that is cheating, but I’m not sure where to go from here. I haven’t made any music lately, what with the goat farming and all."

I believe you just posted the preset, but you just need a higher resolution version to decipher it.

@ both of you. the issue is i can't let go of my ego. i have been trying to do it for decades. i cannot not care. i see no point to it anymore. there have been a few who have done it successfully, but it is so incredibly hard to let go of my rock and roll. the ableton crowd did it, good for them, i won't call them out, i know them as friends. i cannot personally let go of my ego. i need to rock. it's inside me.

and i had a ROOM of hardware to start with. it's gone.
