I'm not sure, where this is coming from, but recently I can't record from within Ableton with MRecorder anymore.
every time I hit the record button it shows this: "File could not be created. Make sure there is no write-protected file already existing."
Is anyone else experiencing this? And has a workaround? :D
Any help would be highly welcomed.
Thanks a lot!

I'm using a MacBook Pro 16 with macOS Big Sur 11.2
Ableton Suite 10.30

All the best,

I'm seeing the same issue on MacOS Catalina. I haven't figured out how to get this to work. It's my first experience with Melda Production plugins. I've allowed Ableton Live access to the folders I am recording to.

Ok, I figured out what's wrong. Apparently, in version 14.11 they fixed this. The 14.11 Release Notes state this:

'Fix: MRecorder was reporting an error when the target path started with "~".'

I'm running the latest 14.16. It looks like they reverted that fix, or accidentally removed the fix.

If you replace the "~/" in the path with your path (e.g. "/Users/Ruforion/"), it works.

Hey rednecknguyen,
Thank you so so much for your reply!
I was so close minded, that the file path itself never occurred to me as a problem.
But indeed it was.
When I tried your solution, the plugin would still report the "write protection" error.
But after some tries I entered the whole location path, so it looked something like this: "Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/(Username)/Desktop/(YourFolder)" and so forth until you reach your wished destination.
And that did the trick for me!
Now I can record again.
Thank you so much for your help!
All the best,
R!

Hey folks, correct, in some of the previous versions the "~" character, which means "user" got added to the beginning along with the actual /Users/.., so it became a nonexistent path. It should be fine in 14.16, but if it got stored in the settings, the plugins remembered it. So just use the browse button again or remove that character.

Hello to you !
Deleting the "~" character doesnt do anything for me sadly...
i can delete it and choose whatever file path i like, but the error still shows up.
Is there anything else i can do ?

Have a great time !

Hmmm, odd, what path are you using now?

"/Desktop/ My Music Stuff/0.4 SOUND /3.1 Samples/1.9.1 MRecorder"

This is the Path essentially. Just without the "~".
But it still shows the error.
Very strange indeed.

Thanks for getting back to me !

You need to replace the '~' with the full path to your home directory see above in this thread. You seem to have simply removed it.

Thanks alot for pointing that out more clear !
It finally happened, im so happy :)
I had to experiment with language (using english instead of german) and combination of the path parts.
But finally it happened.

Its hard to understand at first that such crucial and basic things are missing, that i didnt really think about it as the whole source path, and that the "Volumes" etc missing would have that impact.

Even better that it works now !
Have a great time !

It will also work when you click trough: drives/volume > macintosh hd > user > name > desktop (or wherever you want to record) in the path menu in the plugin. (Version 14.16)
