I like to operate in sync mode with default bars active, and my workflow is built around combining several commands onto the same MIDI trigger where possible. More and more, I find myself trying to create complex sets of macro commands using the Multiparameter system, and within these sets of commands there are some functions that I wish to trigger a certain amount of time after a button is pressed. In almost every case, I intend for this amount of time to be measured in 'number of loops', rather than a fixed time period. However, the switch time within the Multiparameter Behaviour menu is currently limited to milliseconds only. This means my macros often break down if I change the project tempo without updating the switch time or – more commonly – when I try to run the Multiparameter on a track that is set to a different loop length (which I have defined using the default bars override setting). I know I could set up several Multiparameters to account for different loop lengths, but then I always end up running out of pedals on my MIDI foot controller!
So my feature request would be to have some way of controlling the timing of a delayed command, in some measure other than ms – ideally, the 'end of next loop' (on the current track), or perhaps even 'after x number of loops'? I don’t know how feasible this is within the architecture of MSL, but – given that each track already 'knows' how long its loops are going to be ahead of time in this scenario – surely it wouldn’t be impossible to implement?
I’m just sort of thinking out loud here, but there are a few possible locations for such an option….
- Multiparameter switch time – add option for number of loops, alongside the existing musical divisions and ms values
- A new "wait" parameter within the list of controlled parameters. So, for example, you could add a "wait x loops" entry between your other commands when building the Multiparameter. This would open up a lot of flexibility!
- In the Mode dialog of the MIDI Settings window. So, alongside the Linear, Logarithmic, On/Off, Switch, etc… settings there could be an extra option there to choose how many loops the parameter might be delayed by, after the controller is engaged?
(as always, I'm happy to make and post vids with specific demos/examples if anything written above isn't immediately obvious
