I have quite a few other amps almost ready, but I thought I'd try my hand at a Peavey 5150. I want to get more high gain amps, so I thought I'd try the 5150 first. I'm not an expert on them, so I'm looking for some feedback. I recommend trying the Z control to give it a more scooped sound. Anyway any feedback would be appreciated.

Hey Chandler, sounds nice! Funny thing that I also started to copy a Peavy, hehe. Your device can have a solid amount of hizzing noise; at least here. I would decrease the gain range a lot downwards. I am honest: not familiar with the real Peavy 5150!! So my feedback might not be the best, when it comes to "How well did you copy the original?". Just my feedback as a guitarist, who would use such an amp: to me the gain range is to high driven also sound wise. On the lowest gain it already distorts quite a lot. Such an high gain device do not have to be "clean-playbale", I know, still: to me it feels like your deivce has way too much gain. Also at 50% or above it's just way too much, at least according to my taste, hehe.

Not sure if will help you. Really looking forward to all your final amp devices, though! :)

Tagirijus - Thanks for the feedback. The 5150 is a super highgain amp. I don't know if the gain range is exactly the same as the original, but it is fairly close. I don't think most people would ever push the gain beyond 5. Its one of the most popular metal amps, but it us usually used with a tubescreamer in front to tighten it up. I don't know if anyone ever use it for anything besides metal or hard rock.

Here is what it sounds like with the gain on about 4.
Different mics start at 4:06

Underoath77 - Do you like the sound? Is it close to the 5150?

Haha, thanks for explaining. I thought that teh Guitar Rig Van51 should also be a clone of the Peavy 5150 and I compared it to this one, which is also capable of doing some cleaner sounds. Anyway: nice job then, hehe. (-;

Hi, thank you all for working so nicely on ampsimulation. Unfortunately it doesn't sound right to me. The presence sounds way too high, the bass interacts weird with the sound. Do I need to add a preamp simulation? It resembles the 5150 (as I know it from recordings and emulators) but it's not really the same... Totally subjective feeling, of course.

Thanks for the feedback. Do you mean that the presence controls changes the sound too much or the sound is too "in your face"? Also, what do you dislike about the bass? You don't need a preamp, but if you want it to sound like what you'd typically hear on a metal record you'll need a tubescreamer in front of it. Without it the bass might be too loose. Thank you for the help. I'm waiting for a bit more before I start changing things up and improving it.

Sounds like is to much, if I set it down to 0, then it sounds more like it used to be (like it sounds on 50% maybe)...? But it depends on the microphones too, digital is hard to compare.
Tha Bass, it sounds like to much compressed if you set the gain to full (on my guitar, admittedly it's not the best), I've to to set down the vol.. Don't know the circuit, but maybe the bass is decreased if you increase the gain? Or the input gain is to much? Can't describe it exactly, maybe I can find it out, if I've more time

I'll check out the amount of presence and if its too much I'll bring it down. I'll check out the bass too, but honestly a 5150 doesn't sound good when the gain is all the way up. The bass starts farting, it becomes too compressed and noisy. Of course this device might not be accurate to a 5150, so I need to do more checking, but a real 5150 also sounds bad when you turn the gain all the way up. Generally people don't set the gain any higher than 6.

I admit that I havn't played on any real 5150. I guess you have to be really careful with the controllers on this time bomb then :D. Thanks again!

The lead channel is pretty over the top. I did take quite a few of your suggestions to heart though. I reduced the presence and overall top end a bit. I also added a rhythm channel that has about half the amount of gain. I adjusted a few other things too, but I'll post it later when I'm at home. Hopefully I'm getting closer and closer to the sound a 5150 should have. Thank you for your help.

Here is the latest version. It should sound a bit more open and the bass control should be working a bit better. Hopefully it sounds better.
