Piano roll triggers wrong key in plugins (newbie)

Hi, just starting out this week and there are so so so many options :-)

I have this weird problem with plugins: when I trigger a key on the piano roll like C5 this is shown in the plugins piano roll as C4. C4 triggers C3 in the plugin etc. I so far tried Ample Guitar M II Lite and the Ujam trial version of Guitarhero. What am I doing wrong/ am I missing?

First of all, welcome to this amazing new world. You couldn't be starting out at a better time.

So what are you doing wrong?

Nothing.

One of the big shockers in MIDI is that there is no consistency between what one developer calls C4 and one calls C3 on their plugins. Most hardware manufacturers and pretty much all DAW products do agree that MIDI note 69 = 440Hz, but this is not the case for a ton of drum plug in, bass/guitar instruments, and other VSTi plugins, where the coders *can* tell what basic note a sound is, or should be, but aren't somehow clear how the frequency maps out.

This is particularly annoying because drums should be following the GM standard for what note equals what, but I have a couple of drums plugins that clearly don't care about octaves.

You can add a plug in that's built into Waveform to remap the octave...basically, shifting the pitch up or down. I forget which one it is, but someone here will know.

My basic approach is that I keep a clipboard full of notes on hand. Back pages are all project related, but the first batch of pages are things like "C0 = C1 on RealLPC" and so on, to remind me whether I need to shift up or down. I find this easier than dropping in a plug in each time, even if I could preset all of them in a snap.

It's maddening, but here's the good news: it's not you!

Great, if someone knows what plugin I can use to shift an octave between pianoroll and plugin please assist :-)

I just checked and in logic pro x the mappings *are* correct C3=C3 and C4=C4 .. so something is off with waveform. but what..

There is an option in Settings-> General to change middle C to C3, C4 or C5.

You can use the Waveform pitchshifter on audio or midi. Its in Plugins menu under Waveform->Effects
