Sascha Franck wrote:Well, no matter what you're saying, triplet quantizing is meant to shuffle things in case you've been using even grooves before.
That's what things are working like in almost all hosts and it's also been what Cubase has been working like before SX.

You could argue that 50% quantizing (straight 16ths or 8ths) is exactly in the middle of 66.66666666% (last triplet) and 33.33333333% (second triplet) quantize values, but musically "shuffle" or "play that 16ths/8ths shuffled" is ALLWAYS meant as "play your offbeat 16ths/8ths" LATER, so they are almost equaling (or exactly equaling) the third triplet of some 16t/8t grid.
Shifting them towards the second triplet makes no sense in 99% of all cases.
Plus, as said, whenever you spot something like this on a sheet, you would NEVER play those shuffled notes approaching the second triplet (unless you want to be fired).
Plus, as said too, it has never been like that in any Cubase prior to SX.

So, whatever you're saying, the way SX is treating 16t right now is wrong for a whole number of aspects.
I agree. I guess for a lot of people it is not an issue. Atleast me myself would never make something in straight 16ths and then quantize it to 16T, I work directly in the beat I want to do stuff in :)

everybody who is a serious cubase user knows that the Q (quantise) uses your previous settings you have made through the quantitize setup menu.

More and more on this forum, people are shouting BUG ALARM, WORST APPLICATION EVER, ETC. without reading manuals or look into the feature further.

come on, just ask polite and you will definitly get an answer from somebody who actually knows how that feature works.

Relax man.

The biggest Cubase bug so far imo was the SL post fader bug. Only took 6 months to fix. Could be seen as a feature as well though I guess. SX users get 8 inserts where 2 are post fader and SL users get 5 insterts that are all post fader. Woha! Great stuff, makes for all new ways of creative mixing.

"Hmm, the vocals are a bit low. Maybe I should raise em up 2dB.. uhh.. no, that'd mean the compressor gets a higher input.. Perhaps i have a plugin somewhere that had an amp on the output, ah yeah. Here we go."

OK, think about this scenario:
You import some sliced groove into Battery, DR-008, whatever and then import the corresponding MIDI file (or do it all at once in PPro or Intakt). This groove happens to be a straight, hardquantized 16th note beat. Now, if I'd want to try it out shuffled, I'd just set the Q-value to 16t and press Q. If I wanted to try it out slightly shuffled, I'd set the Q-value to 16t again and use "iterative quantize" (I've got a keycommand for that) and it would slightly approach 16t values.
All that without any need to set up my own q-preset.

OK, it actually DOES work with presets, but coming from older versions of Cubase, it has allways been working like described above - it just doesn't anymore as the 16t behaviour has been changed so notes are now pushed towards the second triplet rather than towards the third (which, for the reasons explained above, would be the musically "correct" behaviour).

I've been posting this to the german Cubase list as well. Quite some Steinberg dudes (including programmers) seem to read the list frequently.
If you got any better adresses (mail that is, I don't like the cubase.net forums too much), I'd be happy to know.
I have a whole bunch of other issues as well (mainly regarding the bloated ergonomics in SX, all more or less "proveable" or at least "proveably annoying") which I'd like to submit as well.
