Id assume V12 , I can't see it arriving in a 0.5 update to V11, its such a massive change to the program. I dunno the technical side of it, but I imagine its not a straightforward removal of a bit of code.

I assume it will only be for the new version , the older ones will still need the dongle. So by that , elicenser technically isn't going anywhere, and the likes of Vengeance will still be able to use it, and steinberg will still produce the hardware. Which is a pain in the arse as i'll still need the damn thing, but not for cubase. That's my take on it anyway.

I've been switching from Cubase to Studio 1 because at one point Steinberg messed up Cubase (I think it was at the point of the mixer redesign). The dongle was never a problem besides some startup time issues. DOn't know what they're going for but it probably will never be as easy as S1's keyfile.

I'm also more curious about what other companies relying on the dongle are doing now. Switching to ilok would be cool, dropping the plugins would be bad (looking at you Vengeance).

VSL is going iLok.
Don't know Vengeance though they would probably go for code meter like Avenger, that is if those plugins are still doing well for sales, they are pretty old.
Any other developers using e-licencer?

The Cubase forum has clarified it..............

"The new system will not use a hardware key of any kind, but it will require a periodic call to a license server on the Internet, unless you expressly choose an offline activation (for an air-gapped computer that cannot connect to the Internet).

However, it will not be required that you are connected to the Internet at all times when using the software, and although we don’t yet know what the interval for mandatory license checks will be, I would expect it to be in line with the policies followed by other software vendors. Microsoft requires you to reconnect once every 39 days; Adobe once every 99 days; PreSonus Sphere once every 3 days; EastWest ComposerCloud every 30 days; and so on.

We also anticipate that it will be possible to authorise the software on more than one computer, but, again, the details remain to be worked out.

You can rest assured that we will let you know what we have decided in good time before the introduction of the new license management system, and that we are listening to all the feedback we have been receiving since we made this announcement last week (and indeed for many years before that)."

Well, this second option after the "unless" gives hope. That would
mean that a separate authorization procedure would be created
for machines that are never connected to the net.

One can only hope that they will realize this.

Sounds like standard offline activation where you have to transfer license file between offline and online PC

Yeah it's a subscription without the continuous payment It's the "periodic call to a license server" that's the issue. And I guess even the offline workstations need to do that, else they gonna be cracked in no time. It's probably just that the software doens't try to do it itself but tells you you need to update the license. Don't know. Still waiting for more infos and something to demo.
