Midi CC through Logic and MXXX

Hi guys,
I spent about an hour this morning trying to get a fader mapped to a plugin parameter in Mxxx this morning lol - but sadly had no luck. I just wanted the fader connected to a parameter so I can write in my own automation of that parameter, rather than using the melda modulators.
On some other plugins I own, the process is dead simple - right click/learn midi cc/twiddle fader - voila.
Or, you can open the automation lane in Logic and you can see various parameters of the plug in already - then you select what you want to automate and write...
For Mxxx it seems much more challenging and seems to require a lot of setting up before you can do anything... Does anyone have experience with this who can help? Or is it much easier than I realise....
Basically you can't right click/learn midi cc, but there is a whole midi settings window with a billion different options for mapping to controllers. I got that far, but then couldn't get Mxxx to learn my fader through logic. The learn function didn't seem to read anything.
Thanks for reading, would appreciate any thoughts from Mxxx pros.

If you want to automate a parameter in MXXX, you need to use a multiparameter as proxy. See, MXXX would have literally hundreds of thousands of parameters, and many DAWs (most?) would struggle with that, so in MXXX you always need to use MPs as a proxy. But it's really simple, right click, quick learn, touch it, done. Some tutorials:

Thanks for your replies!
I tried this again this morning - I have managed to attach plugin parameters to multiparameters. Thanks for that tip (I hadn't even gone into that scary multiparameter menu before today!)
What is still not working is the 'Midi Learn' function in the multiparameter menu. When I do that and twiddle a fader (both on my presonus faderport and my Alesis midi keyboard) nothing happens.
I'm wondering if maybe I need to set something up manually in MXXX to get it to read messages from midi devices set up in Logic?

The plug-ins have 2 methods of controlling their parameters:
(a) plug-in parameter automation The plug-in parameters are "published" to the DAW host and can be controlled by Automation Envelopes from the DAW. In several plug-ins those plug-in parameters are the Multiparameters (MPs), in which case one or more "real" parameters must be assigned to each MP.
(b) MIDI CC control MIDI CC messages are assigned to a parameter using the MIDI Settings window. Such parameters are controlled by sending MIDI CC messages from the DAW (or MIDI controller) to the plug-in.
That "MIDI Learn" works fine here (I am not using Logic). MAke sure that MIDI from the source is getting passed to the plug-in.

Thank you DarkStar and all. I managed to get it working but didn't have any luck with midi learn for the multiparameters (think its something to do with how Mxxx and Logic communicate). For anyone discovering this thread later who needs help I've written out my process below:
1. Link the Mxxx plugin parameter you want to edit to an Mxxx multi parameter. (You do this by clicking on the multiparameter side window which brings up tons of potential multiparameters. But just choose one, click on it to bring up menu, click 'Learn" and then twiddle the parameter you want to link as Vojtech said earlier in this thread.)
2. Turn on quick access automation in Logic. In Logic/Preferences/Automation, just click 'automation quick access' to on.
3. Map a physical fader to this quick access function.(Still in logic automation preferences click "learn message" and then move whichever fader you want to use. I used the circular knob on my presonus fader port.)
4. You then open up the Automation lane on the track you are working with , navigate down to Mxxx and then find the multiparameter you set up in step one (they are all numbered).
5. You should then be able to move the fader you mapped in step 3 and see the automation change.
