I’ve migrated to logic and I’m looking for someone to quickly help with some ‘how do you do this in logic’ type stuff.
I’m not a newbie. Ping me if you have the following experience in logic:
- film scoring
- music production
- mix/master
- sampling (optional)

Also I’m on logic 10.4 so if you can help me install 10.5 without upgrading to Big Sur, it’d be great. :phones:

I'm using Logic 10.6.1 on Catalina... so you can use the latest without needing Big Sur!

The latest Logic works well with the latest Logic Remote (iOS) if you have an iPad... which includes the new Sequencer.

The App Store update... the usual. Nothing extra to do. I'm on 10.15.7 (Catalina).

Alas, I'm on Mojave. Afraid to take the plunge as I'm in the middle of a project.

Unfortunately you need Catalina to install anything past 10.4. So that's not an option for you.

10.5 made it easier to work with large scoring templates since it can better deal with huge amounts fo data. 10.6 added the Live loop feature. If 10.4 is working for you and you don't plan on upgrading I would stick with it.
Studio One // Bitwig // Logic Pro // Ableton // Reason // FLStudio // MPC // Force // Maschine

Yeah, IIRC, Mojave is Logic 10.4 only.

I had no issues when I upgraded to Catalina. But then I didn't use any 32 bit apps/plugins.

I am still pretty new to Logic, I came from Bitwig but I'm learning a lot more about Logic lately, I might be able to help impart some workflow tips to help you get started quicker, but I don't have tons of experience in all areas listed (I've tried scoring to picture a few times for fun but nothing more than that). Still happy to help.

Darn. Oh well, I was really interested for a few things: 1. sampler 2. iPad sidecar so I can put my video on the pad. 3. live loops - so I can put my rough ideas there.

Thanks! Mainly I'm interested in the scoring workflow. I've seen a few YouTube videos but they don't cover what I want.

What I want is to be able to change the tempo of a cue without affecting further cues in the arrangement. Cubase made this easy to do. I found a workaround in Logic but it's really cumbersome.

Logic 10.6.1 is worth it... I love the new Sampler and Quick Sampler. Also the Drum Machine Designer with the new Step Sequencer. Plus Logic Remote... and the Live Loops.

One question - How do I replace the imported movie's audio track with my output from Logic? I have compressor, but I haven't figured out how to replace the audio track.

If I use Logic's Export audio to Movie function it creates a massive file, so that's a no-go.

Post

Well, you know _the_ way to do it. I don't follow how you expect the file to be other than it is in size. You can look at it in DaVinci Resolve to compare. (It costs no money, the basic version, and it's a full-featured application except for the collaboration aspect.)
The file size of the video is what it is, I don't think Logic is a video editing application.

Well, I phrased my question poorly. My current flow is to export to movie from Logic, and compress it in Compressor.

I was hoping there was a better workflow with Compressor - i.e just replace audio in the source video and render as a new movie file.
