You know, if Izotope's going to charge $200 to upgrade from Standard to Standard just to get the latest version, the least they could do is throw in ARA support.

Can RX plugins be used as standalone VST, similairly to Ozone Advanced?

One point to keep in mind, is that if you are doing things that require a high amount of processing, such as fingerprint-based noise reduction at high quality, the plugin cannot keep up in real time.

Furthermore, if you use the standalone app, the plugins run multithreaded. In a DAW they do not.

This is where RX Connect plugin is handy: it allows for direct communication between DAW and external application. I don't know if every DAW allows that. It works in Cubase.

That's not realtime, though. That's just a way to use RX to edit clips in an offline mode, which you can do in many DAWs by configuring RX as your external editor.

Better offline and highest quality than real-time with compromised quality. imo of course.

A VST is by definition a plug-in. But when you buy RX, there is also a standalone app.

No, not their plugins. You either need to use the RX Standalone app, or run the plugins in a DAW. The app though is a much more powerful way to deal with treating audio.

To answer my own question - yes, individual plugins can be used in a DAW to process audio in real time, suprisingly with no latency
Now I've got pristine real-time voice recording.

Only “most” of their modules appear as plugins because the other ones require more intensive CPU cycles and can only be processed offline.

Yeah I'm out, recently switched to Acon Acoustica Premium, bye bye RX Advanced. Been on it since RX3 but have always hated their expensive upgrades, lack of reported bug fixes, and overall corporate feel. Possible future subs was the nail in the coffin for me, more than the merger with NI.

I checked out Acon a while back but it didn’t seem to be as full-featured as RX. The denoise algos have ocd-levels of customization. Plus there are tons of quick, useful functions like deplosive.

I’ll check it out again, though. What do you feel it does better than RX?

Only been using it a couple of weeks, so early days, but so far, for the functions I use (mostly basic audio editing, topping and tailing, gain, fades and a little bit of de-clip and de-click), it seems equal to RX in every way. Once I'd created all my usual keyboard shortcuts from RX the transition was very painless. It certainly loads much faster, and can host VST3 plugins which RX7 Advanced never could. Been getting really into the Plugin Chaining for all ITB masters, something I never really gelled with in RX. Seems less buggy too. Cheaper price, constantly updated, great feedback from the developer who is always active and appreciative of bug reports, feature requests and constructive criticism etc. I prefer the GUI too. What's not to like?

Will be able to use all the RX7 plugins within it too, to A/B (although haven't tried that yet).

Just a quick note that you can reduce plosives in Acoustica with the de-clicker. There's a "Plosive & thump" sensitivity slider there that you can adjust to tame plosives.
