MSF: What's the theory / principle behind the decimal value "voices" in OSC "unison" tab?

The fact that there are 2 decimal places in the number of voices that can be selected from the unison tab for oscillators strikes me as purposeful and hints perhaps at a different way of looking at what a voice is. After all, I think most people would think of voices as being discrete whole number units. You either have 3 violins playing, or 4, but never 3.27 violins. I mean... does the fourth guy only get paid 27% of scale?

Do the decimals just represent a new voice at a lower volume so, for instance, 3.27 voices is 3 voices at 100% volume, and a fourth at 27% volume, or is there a whole other philosophy behind the fractional voices?

You got it, just lower volume.
