Dunno, Rene's filters are rather harsh in nature, really spikey/grating resonance...

Yep. At some point, about above from 50-60% resonance, the Z3TA filters scream like mad... not scream in a good sense. Ear piercingly screaming. I didn't really find the Rapture filters very nice in that regard either.

Digital sounding filters can sound quite pleasing, see the Waldorf synths. Those also scream at some point, but, you need a lot more resonance for that, and they don't get nearly as ear piercing either.

Not much of an issue, I guess, if you're not using highly resonant sounds that often. But, if you're like me, and you use a lot of those, it's very pleasant to have a nice resonant behavior. Actually, I'd even say that it_s pretty crucial.

To me the Z3ta-filters sound quite good, what is more, there are many types (some of them also a bit unusual) and you can run them in parallel and dual mode.

Meh, Surge's interface is one of my favorites, so beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder really. It initially looks a little busy, but once you get used to it, it's super easy to navigate around and to work with. At least for me.
