Surge XT The Sonic Transformation

Post

Is there info about Surge XT outside of the issue log? Will it be payware? I think ED overseeing the UI will lead to great results. Expectations are high and I like what I've just read. For me, the biggest challenges with Surge are workflow and usability, with some issues that ED already provided good examples of. Looking forward to XT. Good luck team!

Surge Synth Team will never ask anyone for money.

The milestone is pretty much our general plan for XT and beyond. Surge XT can actually already be built, but it's far from ready, it's basically early alpha. Lots of things to deal with until summer ends. :)

Funkybot, would not be a bad thing to see you on our Discord, as I know you also like to fiddle with skins and so on. We do have #design channel for stuff related to UI and skins. :)

I mostly just tinker with colors. I'm no designer. But if I ever figure out what a Discord is, maybe I'll pop by!

It's basically this little community we have here (link to join) :)

No biggie, but keep getting "invite invalid" messages.

Ah you need to open a Discord account first IIRC. https://discord.com/register

Any chance of a classic duophonic mode for Surge, like on the Odyssey? (I'll be embarrassed if there already is one but I don't think so)

Post

You can already sort of emulate it with two scenes - set both to monophonic mode, right-click the Play Mode selector and pick lowest note priority for one and highest note priority for the other.

You could also do it in a single scene by disabling keytrack on osc 1/2 and using Lowest Key/Highest Key modulators on pitch. That'd probably be more correct (since then you have those oscillators going into one filter). Unfortunately, portamento does not work in this case (it does work if you use the polyphonic Keytrack modulator, though - something to check out, but too late to fix for 1.9).

Post

The lowest key/highest key modulators are definitely the most accurate way to do it (alas with no portamento) if you want FM/RM/Sync between the duophonic oscillators (my favourite oddy trick)

Disregard. Got it. Thanks!

Interesting. And I guess that would work with mpe too? Always looking for a duophonic rimg mod/fm synth with mpe.

Yeah, except Surge doesn't do inter-osc sync. :)

AFAIK yes it should also work with MPE too.

D'oh, you're right - for that effect I used low note priority mono mode and then highest keytrack for the sync parameter.

OK that is actually a pretty kickass workaround!
