Hello everybody!
I'm a new comer from Cubase (after 15 years). I'm still watching videos and tutorials to get familiar with Waveform.
I understand the concept of Edit as an effective way for revision control. In Cubase I used to save a new copy every time I edited a project, and this of course created a complete copy of the newly edited revision. I've noticed that creating a new edit from the Edit tab in Waveform just brings a blank page! There are no audio or midi events whatsoever. And to create a copy with all the events I have to use "Create a Copy" in the projects tab then renaming it appropriately.
It sounds a bit confusing to me. Can somebody explain how to use multiple edits in Waveform for revision control?
Thanks

Not sure if I'm understanding correctly, but what I do is SAVE AS... but I only do it after pretty major changes, or experimentation as I don't like having a million edits saved per project. It defaults to the edit name with a +1 modifier.

I think maybe you're assuming that a Project is meant to have only one song. It's not. It's just a container for Edits. You can choose to have only one song in it (with as many versions of the one song you want) or you can make as many different songs as you like. That's why "Create a New Edit" makes a new, blank Edit and Create a Copy creates a copy of an existing Edit. As pointed out above, you can also Save As from an open Edit.
I have a test Project that I use as a container for multiple Edits that contain song sketches, tests of new VSTs, and efforts to track down crash points in troublesome VSTs. It's nice to have a space for random Edits without the need for a ton of Projects. And every time I click the "Create a New Edit" I absolutely want it to be empty.
If you want to have only one song in a Project, simply avoid clicking the "Create a New Edit" button.

Surely there must be consensus by now...

You've just explained it clearly. Thank you. The idea of a container of different songs in one place hadn't come to my mind.pough wrote: Sun Apr 11, 2021 4:27 pm I think maybe you're assuming that a Project is meant to have only one song. It's not. It's just a container for Edits.
