I've got an old American Strat that badly needs the pickups replaced...I'm completely lost on what's out there these days in terms of pickups. I'm looking for a good funk sound that generates a nice sound for single note muted plucks....Any recommendations?

Ones that are pretty much exactly like the ones that ship on the strat to begin with? I mean, funk is right there in the basic strat wheelhouse... I assume there are technical issues with your current pups?

Yes, there are technical issues with them, they need to be replaced. I'm just not a "guitar parts" guy, just a player (I know that sounds weird). Humbuckers?

No Humbuckers........ search out someone selling stock strat pups....thats what you want. Nothing fancy just american strat pups. they should be cheap

Just about any Strat PU sounds all Niles Rogers set to position 2 or 4 of the five-way switch

I think just any regular fender single-coil pickpus will get the job done. I would not use noise-cancelling pickpus though
