I have lots of vst plugins, organized in individual folders placed in group folders named by function (eq, dynamic, delay, etc). All those folders are grouped in two containers, vst and vsti; i.e. :
- vst → eq → equalizer.dll
- vsti → fm synth → synth.dll
Is there any way to use this folder structure as 'sort by', without any artificial 'tagging' or 'grouping'?
feature: sort plugins by path tree / folder structure

If you go to Plug-ins on the Settings page, there is a button called Plugin Selector which lets you choose from a few options, including disc location. I'm not certain how that works, but it sounds like it might be what you're after.
As an alternative, to the right of the plug-in list, is space to create a Favourites menu structure. You can create folders and sub-folders, and drag plug-ins from the main list (they remain on the main list) into whichever folder you wish them to be in. That would give you plenty of scope to group them as Effects or Instruments, and then types of each at lower levels.
