I find myself not using these as much as I used to. Would love to see them get the once over. Any idea when that might happen? Zero pressure intended, just curious.

Post

I'd love to see these two updated and wonder what their future is as well.

I think the plan is at bare minimum a GUI refresh in the next year or two IIRC (something for the design team to do while the DSP team works on Zebra 3)

There's going to be a UI/modernisation update for Filterscape and hopefully also for MFM2 this year.

Urs, I recall you once saying something to the effect of (paraphrasing here from memory): it's not lost on us that we're a company known for our filters, but our standalone filter products don't use our best ones. I don't want a second of potential Z3 to go into a Filterscape update, but once Z3 is in the bag, it would be great to see you guys put out an effect box with some of the newer filter models. Right now, The Drop sort of reigns supreme when it comes to analog filter FX (IMO) and it's been a long time since that was first released.

Well, I'm going to assume that Z3 comes with an additional FX version as well, it could cover that ground for sure.... no pressure on Urs, just sayin'....

Cheers

Or I dunno? update the GUI and add the newer filters to Filterscape? :)

Gets my vote!

It's probably not as simple as that and would likely further delay Zebra3. Hence why I think they're splitting the GUI refresh up from any new filters.

Yeah you’re probably right but one can dream. :)

filterscape would be a good place to put some of the filters that are currently on synths without an fx version (diva, ACE, etc)

I would really like to see new filter tech in filterscape. Last time i demoed it, the filters sounded thin compared to some of the newer zdf based designs. It’s a great tool though!

Last time we thought "let's add some modulation and a new reverb alghorithm" to something it has become an endless alpha that requires a lot of attention this year, before the final work on Zebra 3 can begin (see Uhbik 2 alpha thread)...

I would *love* to boost Filterscape with new filter models, and it surely wouldn't be difficult and all, but experience tells us, what sounds like an easy job may end up requiring a lot more commitment.

Haha, you do have a keen talent for finding gremlins. There are a few workflow choices to be made if you want to switch filter modes, agreed.

- how to handle parameters which aren’t shared by all models?
- do all parameters work well with the same parameter curves across all models?
- how to minimize extreme volume jumps, especially with high resonance settings?
- how to serialize the additional stuff?
- which changes go into the undo history, which don’t?
- how to connect automation parameters across models?
...

I would love to have new models. I would prefer u-he level of consistency and usability, though
