I'm very glad to announce Swanky Amp Pro is finally in public beta. You can grab it here https://www.resonantdsp.com/swankyamppro/.

I'll be coming back here with more information as time permits in the coming weeks. I'd love to do some more blogs to talk about new technologies in the plugin.

The next step will be the full release which is currently slated for a late May.

Here's what you get in the beta (all for just $35):
  • The new UI
  • Two effects pedals: a tube-screamer-like circuit, and a DS1-like circuit
  • The new cabinet model with some bells and whistles, more to come later
  • Fine-tuned model configuration (it should be easier to find good tones)
  • Only 3 presets (this is a make-your-own-adventure release, but more presents will follow once the new pedals are implemented)
Here's what you'll get on full release (at no extra cost of course):
  • Three more effects pedals (and more to come over the lifetime of the product)
  • More cabinet customization options
I expect the development to continue well after release as I keep building the amp sim I want to use every single day. And I look forward to continuing to listen to the great feedback from the users to help shape that evolution.

Thank you very much for your support. I sincerely hope those of you who chose to get the discounted beta have a great experience with it.

Nice! What will be the price on release? And for how long will the discounted beta be available?

Not sure how long the beta pricing will hold, but the price is USD 35 (per website).

Hi Danilo,

I'm aiming for $70 at release. It depends what the feature set is then and what the reception is to it. The beta discount will be available for around a week and there'll probably be a couple of updates in that time. But I do have a limit on the number of licenses I want to sell in beta so I might have to take it down earlier.

At some point closer to launch I'll make some YouTube videos to demo the capabilities, hopefully that'll give a good idea of what this thing is capable of. The core model is based off of Swanky Amp (which is free and open sourced) so you can always check in on that https://resonantdsp.com/swankyamp. But the pro version does take things a step further.

Thanks,
Garrin

I set up a parallel signal path with SwankyAmp and SwankyAmpPro and tried to dial-in my favorite patches used in SA across to SAP. Bottom line: Although I couldn't exactly get identical sounds (which is to be expected I think), I could easily get close and then decide that the SAP sounded "better. Perhaps it is just wishful thinking but there it is.
Oh, and I could not reproduce that problem I had with the DAW hanging on project close. I think it was a one-off problem based on some other project I was working in just prior.
Looking forward to exercising this further.

Alright! Congrats on the release Garrin, instabuy from me - will definitely be using this very soon and will be sure to report back if I run into any issues! Swanky Amp is definitely my favourite ampsim so very excited to check out the pro version!

Hi Garrin,

Congratulations on the release of Swanky Amp Pro! You've spent a lot of time working in the cabs, so I hope people will check out the improvements there in addition to the other improvements and enhancements.

Best regards,
Dave

Thanks for the kind words, and for those who are sending feedback.

There are a few known issues at this point which I will get resolved within the next couple of patches (one which will be released today):
  • Some (most) tooltips are missing
  • Volume output knobs on pedals doesn't deactivate
  • The orange drive pedal is using an older (incorrect) configuration
  • Preset changing doesn't always work
I'll also be investigating possibly higher than expected CPU usage.

Thanks,
Garrin

Just checking in to say - this Pro version is coming along nicely.
I sent you an email Garrin, with an attachment - so let me know if you don't receive it.
Volume output knobs on pedals doesn't deactivate
I noticed that - and thought it was intentional. On second thought, it makes sense to disable it with the pedal (DOH!)

The orange drive pedal is using an older (incorrect) configuration
Oh well, I was complimenting you on how cool this sounds! ;)

The Orange Drive was accidentally a fuzz. But the next pedal will be called the "rodent", I'll let you guess what circuit that is (I think you request it in fact xD). So you'll get that fuzz back.

Slated for the next update also is a re-work of the volume normalization. It's much much smoother now.

Version 0.3.1 is released. This is a minor patch which addresses the following issues:
  • The missing tooltips have been added. Existing tooltips have been revised.
  • The "Orange Drive" pedal's circuit was misconfigured and has been corrected.
  • The volume corrections have been revised.
  • The overall volume has been increased.
I'd love to get some feedback on the overall volume changes. I know there are still some stray cats to be herded, in a manner of speaking, in the cab section. But otherwise there should be a lot less playing around with the output volume knob.

I also set the default volume higher but still below the digital ceiling. But maybe this is too system specific so if anyone is getting nasty clipping on the default (init) preset please let me know. I'm trying to get the plugin to behave "as expected" out of the box.

This will change your preset volumes so those will need to be revised. I'll try to avoid this going forward but beta is for fixing bugs.

Thanks,
Garrin

Just tried out 0.3.1

- the tooltips are great!
- The Orange drive is cool - but I like the rat better ;) I guess we have that to look forward to ;)
- now when you engage the cab sim, the volume is a lot *lower* (it used to be too high)
So now, if you're using a 3rd party cab sim, then disable it and engage the Swanky cab sim - the volume is a lot lower.

- overall volume corrections are good now - except for one area. When I go from a crunch tome to a more distorted one - I still get a volume jump. Here are some screenshots.

crunch

dist - note -6db output to achieve similar volume
Image
so somewhere in the drive 6 to drive 8 (either pre or power) there is a volume jump.

At lower drive levels and also at higher than that drive setting - they seem pretty good

Can't wait to give the pro version a spin. Any other clues as to what pedals will be added in the future besides the 'rodent' one?

After the "rodent" will come a compressor and a chorus effect. These will be a bit more free-form effects, not so much based on any particular hardware. Though I am looking at compressor pedal circuitry to see if there are any interesting dynamics to pull in. I don't want it sounding like a surgical digital compressor, you can always add another VST up-stream for that.

Over time I want to add more pedals. I'd like to do some creative things, and I'll be eager to see what the users want to use.

Any you'd like to see in particular?
