I'm thinking of grabbing this again. Had it once but sold it, although recently some of my tracks where it's bounced I noticed sound good. To me the biggest draw is the ease of the mods to get something swinging going straight away.
The high cpu hit which I noticed the first time on the first couple iterations, if it's higher w/ version 3 that's what is holding me back really.

I haven’t compared the CPU usage of the oscillator engines, but the Jup-8 filter is a huge CPU drain. Try setting both filters to Jup-8 and watch CPU usage skyrocket. It’s strange, because the actual Jup-8 V4 plugin isn’t particularly CPU heavy.muki wrote: Fri Apr 23, 2021 1:48 pm i think it's mostly the new harmonic engine that's more cpu hungry
I don’t think the CPU usage has increased per se. They added some new features, and some of those new features use a lot of CPU.nusound mind wrote: Fri Apr 23, 2021 11:06 pm The high cpu hit which I noticed the first time on the first couple iterations, if it's higher w/ version 3 that's what is holding me back really.
The overall CPU usage of Pigments (not just the new version but previous ones as well) is highly dependent on the patch. Some of them barely touch my CPU, but depending on which modules are used and how much modulation is happening, it can use more CPU than any other plugin on my system.

So far on my M1 Pigments run fine at 128ms latency in Bitwig3 and is pretty playable for pad sounds. I just recorded an improvised play-through most of the pad sounds that came with this deal. These sounds INCLUDE the add-on packs which I installed.
Note: You might notice that some of the sounds aren't pad like at all, this is not me skipping randomly through the other types of sounds, it's just stuff that shipped in the Pad category with the synth.
Just a limiter on the output.
The only sounds that really choke the CPU are the granular ones. The other sound engines barely do anything to the processor.
I'm not a keyboard player, or a trained musician so it's all.. self-taught playing by ear so be warned.
I mostly play the sound by the feel it evokes in me. Sometimes I just find it boring and will skip past it like changing a channel on a TV I don't like

I was trying to find an outboard FX setup that worked well with Pigments to enhance the overall sound.
For those of you that already have IK Multimedia's MixBox, I found that these settings really enhance the stock presets. Everything including the bass, punch, and clarity sounds much fuller and fatter with this FX enabled as an insert.
If you don't have this IKM product, you can most likely try dialing in these settings with your favorite saturator and EQ plugs, if you wish. Happy trails!

There doesn't appear to be a separate release curve but the Link function does allow for a different curve:Bartone wrote: Fri Apr 23, 2021 8:49 pm No, I mean curve just for release. So the release curve can be independently modified. This option makes release slave to decay. Or am I doing something wrong here?
From the manual:
Release Link Buttons
There are two of these buttons: one by the Decay knob and another by the Release knob.
What they do is link the Decay time and the Release time to the Decay knob, which controls
them both. The Release is greyed out to indicate that it cannot be adjusted when the two
parameters are linked.
Also, when Release Link mode is active, the Decay curve knob also adjusts the Release
curve. Otherwise the Release curve is always exponential
20 seconds not enough ?

Apparently I have run afoul of the Arturia Censors. They were having none of it.....

No, not at the moment. They say they are working on it though, which is at least an improvement on PACE/iLok who haven't even said if they're bothering.

It isn't that much with an exponential release stage slope (try a longer amp envelope release, like 7 or 8 seconds, and then set up the filter envelope as well, set the release to 20 secs, and you will have that rather ugly "the filter envelope closes before the amp envelope does").
Still gotta try out the function modulators though. They might work, if you set them up as an envelope (as far as I understand it, they work like MSEG's then).

...Pigments is really a pleasant surprise and I'm seriously thinking of buying it. That price offer is quite tempting, but why buying a no-brainer, if you'd still end up not using it. Will demo it extensively the next three weeks, and let's see, what happens after the first excitement.
The feature-set with wavetable, a granular sampler and now that harmonic engine is quite interesting and I like, that it's embedded in a straight-forward, yet deeply programmable synth. (Otherwise, I would have looked at Falcon, for instance.) Though the feature-set is ticking almost all the right boxes, I'm rather impressed with the layout and workflow, the general GUX - excellent modulation system!
However, the wavetable engine is very good, as is the fx section, and I'm very fond of the granular mode and the very capable sequencer. The filters are OK, they could be more exciting, but there is indeed a lot you can do before you'll even get to them.
Still, there are some things, that I'm missing, e.g. a pre-filter distortion/saturation or other fx like ring modulators or pitch-shifter etc. (it's obvious, where I'm coming from). So, I'd really like to see one of these things in a future version (wouldn't be KVR, if people wouldn't find a fly in the oinment, would it?
). I've added five (six) things in the following pic - the ones, who find them, win a spot in the petition line to pressure Arturia to release these features in v3.5 or v4 or whatever...

...I didn't count the preset name and the routing drop-down menu, which would route each engine to the filter or to the insert fx modules would just a be a logical consequence of that feature, that's why I wrote six in brackets. But you missed onegondii wrote: Sat Apr 24, 2021 11:41 am Hm, the insert FX, the ballsy filter, FX mix option...
Edit: utility source in filter section, second seq, preset name?
