The list of modules does look very basic compared to the competition.
Maybe they should team up with Ableton (they already did this in a way) to develop the Ableton grid
It’s M1 compatible, I’m demoing it now, it’s super light on cpu, impressively actually.

I have a feeling they’ll at least be adding there physical modeling collection as modules

I'm wondering though they are intended as paid addons? To me this looks very much like a 'base' pack of modules (like VM Core)

My guess is that its light on CPU (which is not a bad thing, of course) because they have recycled some of the Tassman code. Again, not a bad thing, but hopefully there will be an extra discount for Tassman/Modeling Collection owners.

I like Venus Theory alot. But not sure it was wise to take on this release whilst also launching a new beginners series on voltage modular on the Cherry Audio youtube channel. (which i watched this morning in the gym)

There is the usual share of nebulous claims in the video that sound good but don't reflect in the visual presentation. I anticipate a longer-form video from Cameron (Venus Theory) that will go further into the details. VT is a very good "thing explainer", so I'm looking forward to that.

I track a completely different industry that goes in cycles through product form factors every few years. Each form sees incremental improvement per cycle and the fast-followers glom onto the current form trend to get some market share. One of the followers adds a little something that catches the most customers, tastes change, and the hunt is on for the next form. That seems to be what is happening here. AAS is probably an end-of-cycle producer in the modular form resurgence.

All in all, the electronic synth market seems to be healthy, so something innovative from someone is around the corner. That bodes well for us.

The AAS hardware module they made is excellent so I have hopes for this.

i've just have the time to tweak it , playing and modulate the objeq filter is just exciting , i own modular and voltage and if AAS release each new module based on their synth collection so it will be very good ! really take the time to dig it !

Although limited (so far) I do think this has a number of attractions for me compared to the other modulars. For one the interface itself looks very simple and straitforward to patch stuff in - like many I find I have to fight the Softube environment to use it and although the CherryAudio Modular is easier it has an annoying level of inconsistency in module designs and an overly rigid distinction between mono and poly modules. This reminds me more of my Nord G2 Modular editor in many respects.

Plus there is a lot of scope for improvements but this seems a decent start. Getting the basics right first seems a good approach. That's where Softube went wrong.

So I think if they make me a better offer as a Modelling collection owner I will get it. If it begins to add back what we lost with the demise of Tassman, but in a more user friendly and modulatable environment, I'm all for it.

Just demoed this for a few minutes. I can't seem to like the overall sound of the various modules. To me the filters sound pretty damn weak as do the oscillators.. not sure what it is about it all but it just sounds very sterile and uninspiring somehow.

What I do like is the clear simple interface.

Wish it could do polyphonic though, considering the miniscule cpu usage this thing has (tested on Mac M1 Mini).

yes not so powerfull than modular and voltage (wich i own) but the simple interface and the objeq let me think a lot of good thing will come.

Tassman has one hundred and four (104) modules
These are a few of the PM modules in Tassman that are not in this thing:

Bowed
Flute
Mallet
Marimba
Membrane
Organ
Plate
Plectrum
String

The software engineer for Tassman, Stephane Tassart left in 2000 so AAS may no longer have a PM programmer.

Uhhh, they've been cannibalizing Tassman for 20 years, using all those thing you list in their other plugins.

I don't think that this will be a replacement for Tassman as they'd rather sell you 10 specialty synths than one Swiss Army knife synth. My guess is that is has their VA engine backing it.

it's a pop up window. i scrolled through the pop up and thought "that's it?" because it's really basic subtractive stuff other than the object filter module. and there's only 35 modules.

there's more on offer w/the Free version of VCV rack.

It's nice to see more mainstream developers offering a modular synth/ecosystem. That said, I also don't see anything here of interest 'yet' and am more than happy with Cherry Audio Voltage Modular - I think I got 100+ quality modules for 50 bucks and its a plug in (as instrument or fx) and standalone.

Anyway- will download and demo (rude not to!) I like AAS and if it has all of their 'sound engines' in modules it may be worth having...

Edit- downloaded, demoed, deleted. Super basic at this time...filters are pretty good, that's about it

I’m pretty sure they announced Tassman was discontinued about 5 years ago...

They should have just made and sold the Objeq filter on Voltage Modular and VCV!

Applied Accoustic Systems has a modular now I guess
