Applied Accoustic Systems has a modular now I guess

Nothing special as far as I can see.
Great demos and marketing videos though, have to admit that.

going live with multiphonics cv-1
I've actually really enjoyed it from my short playthrough last night

I honestly think this is the second best software modular I've tried (Bitwig Grid taking top honors) and impressive for the price.
To be fair, I never could get Softube Modular working due to iLok shenanigans of one sort or another, and I only tried VCV Rack when it was extremely new (and compared it unfavorably to real Eurorack).
I like that it's not explicitly tied to MIDI, unlike some supposedly modular VSTs.
The delay module here lets you do some Karplus resonator stuff, and everything internally will modulate at audio rates pretty well. I had a nice patch going with dynamic FM, a Karplus-Strong-ish delay with additional FM... it sounded very "PMish" without even using Objeq Filter.
For me, the biggest disappointment is that it doesn't process audio outside itself. (You can't even sneak it in by automating the Macro knob, since that updates at control rates rather than audio rate.) If it could do that, I might buy it just to get the Objeq Filter. It's mostly redundant with Bitwig Grid though... so I guess I will investigate the full Objeq plugin

!! To me this is a positive as far as, there were definitely times when it seemed like there would never again be a new AAS VST. The previous ones were very complete instruments to begin with; having only so much more room to grow, but here they seem to be leaving plenty of room for both boilerplate and unpredictable new additions.
i haven't demoed this yet having only just now found out about it: but I always find the AAS sound is very compatible with tape emulation (wow and flutter for example)! Secondly of course are any of your reverb/acoustic simulator (or actually putting the sounds out into an actual acoustic space) options!!
The same is sometimes said of Arturia, that their creations are exceptionally liquid for sound design, but something can feel or sound incomplete about the audio signal itself until given a place to live and some additional characterisation and colorisation, at which point the world becomes your oyster!

There seem to be endless possibilities for Multiphonics CV-1. I'm sure future versions will be adding lots of modules and stuff. I hope to pick it up later today and start noodling. I'm especially intrigued by this because of all the discord found on this thread . . . . the impressions and expectations are all over the place. In my experience, anything mildly liked by everyone is boring. Things that are extraordinary needs some controversy! For the introductory price, I can't resist. Let's see what all this squabbling is about.

Not tried Cherry Audio Voltage Modular? The best of the bunch for me 'all round' (as its also a VST plug in instrument and fx) Often on sale for 50 bucks with 100+ modules including a DAW like piano roll option...foosnark wrote: Wed Apr 28, 2021 3:39 pm I honestly think this is the second best software modular I've tried (Bitwig Grid taking top honors) and impressive for the price.

I picked up a few Richard Devine sound packs for Ultra Analog and Chromaphone, and I like many patches. Some I use "as is" while others provide a good start-point for my user patches. I never thought of his sounds as "bread and butter," but they are really cool for ambient, otherworldly textures. Yeah, there are some chugga chug blips and bloops, but in my opinion there are plenty of good patches to justify the small price (especially when on sale).

I seem to recall trying the first version and not liking it for whatever reason.SLiC wrote: Wed Apr 28, 2021 4:14 pm Not tried Cherry Audio Voltage Modular? Trying Voltage Modular version 2 now: my quick impression is it feels more awkward to work with than the AAS one, or Bitwig.
The delay doesn't have any CV control at all, which is completely unacceptable in a modular synth, and it doesn't respond well to changes in delay time anyway. The patch I created in a few minutes with the AAS modular isn't possible at all with Voltage Modular.
And requiring a mult in order to route an output to multiple inputs is annoying -- even in hardware I use stacking cables rather than mults.

Heh, I was just taking the piss a bit. Devine seems like a really cool guy, and he's obviously enthusiastic and earnest about electronic sounds. I mainly know his presets from the Unfiltered Audio pluggies, and I never found them all that useful. Still, he's the Jordan Rudess of the modular world, isn't he?tommyzai wrote: Wed Apr 28, 2021 4:21 pm I picked up a few Richard Devine sound packs for Ultra Analog and Chromaphone, and I like many patches. For the moment, at least, the advantage of Voltage Modular over the AAS and softube solution is that third parties can relatively easily create modules that are not a part of the existing system. Obviously Softube allows this but the pace will be slower and subject to their approval. Also VCV clearly allows this but AFAIK, it's still not loadable as a plugin.foosnark wrote: Wed Apr 28, 2021 5:50 pmI seem to recall trying the first version and not liking it for whatever reason.SLiC wrote: Wed Apr 28, 2021 4:14 pm Not tried Cherry Audio Voltage Modular? I find it unlikely that AAS will offer an SDK, but I'd love to be wrong.

Multi is built in, available on every jack, just double click...also polyphonic cables (a modular you can play chords on!) - can AAS Modular do polyphonic or is it a mono synth?foosnark wrote: Wed Apr 28, 2021 5:50 pmI seem to recall trying the first version and not liking it for whatever reason.SLiC wrote: Wed Apr 28, 2021 4:14 pm Not tried Cherry Audio Voltage Modular? Lots of options for delay with CV aside from the bundle ones- from free to 12 bucks, about 30 different delay models to choose from, some very interesting ones (and polyphonic)...I think there are well over 1000 modules to choose from in total at Cherry Audio....https://store.cherryaudio.com/modules
