I'm running the latest public release of Cakewalk by BandLab, v.2021.04 (build 144), and getting random crashes when I install and remove plug-ins, including Meldaproduction plug-ins.

One of the offenders was MDynamicEq.

The Cakewalk devs wailed "the issue is your plug-ins are crashing the host!" so I'm reporting it here. If there's any way I can be of help, please ask, I am an experienced software QA engineer.

FWIW, so far I can't find any other users on the CbB forum who are having similar issues. However, they just dropped a big release with several new features, including an overhaul of their plug-in menu system.

Try v.2021.04 (build 145) .... this is a hotfix they just released.

Note: I just added the 15K Beta VST3 of MDynamicEq to an SIT’s (Msoundfactory) Effects Bin and no problems here.

Just installed the hotfix. Unfortunately, the crashes I've gotten in CbB from MDynamicEQ (and other mfrs. plug-ins) are intermittent, therefore not repeatable. As a former QA engineer my motto is "if it's not repeatable, don't bother, 'cause the devs can't do anything about it." For troubleshooting, intermittent issues are the worst.

Still, the crash dumps might give the devs (Melda or Bakers) a clue as to what is going on.

And I have submitted them to Los Panaderos and offered to send them to the producers of Melda. With a copy of WinDbg Preview I can look at the .dmp's and see just which modules misbehaved.

One of the things I didn't initially pick up on in the release notes was that plug-in exception handling was getting less permissive. So it's seemed as if once rock-solid Cakewalk had itself regressed into crashiness. If we have all these projects in process that haven't shown any visible issues with plug-ins and suddenly they do, that's nasty.

Ideally, I'd like a nicely packaged report that I can forward to plug-in developers.
